And if any shooter other than Stamkos scored there I think the consensus would be it was a weak goal. It leaked through his arm and body. That’s a stoppable goal.

He had a great game last night though, but that’s a stoppable goal. It doesn’t mean he didn’t have a great game though.

It leaked through his arm and body only because he was in position and read the play well enough to even get a piece of it. This wasn't a shot that was thrown from the corner or sideboards that bounced past him. And the fact is that Stamkos was the shooter, so consensus on players other than Stamkos really have no bearing on the discussion.

I think regarding the Stamkos goal it's a matter of semantics. I would imagine in Schneider's own mind that was a goal he wanted back because he squared up to the shooter, caught a piece of the puck, and still allowed it to get through. But, it was Stamkos from point blank range...so the majority of fans (who have a definition of a bad goal of - WTF WAS THAT) can't really consider it a "bad" goal.

No it's not a bad goal, but you'd like a save there when it's an unscreened wrister, he's in position and the puck hits him. There's a difference between stoppable goals and bad goals. That was a stoppable goal.

Have to agree that we need to just move on... Yes, if it was anyone but Stamkos you want that one back, but he stopped quite a few he shouldn't have too.

I think whichever goalie we put on the ice now might be the best goalie on the ice. I'm not impressed with Vasilevsky at all - pucks are bouncing off his glove - and his rebound control isn't terrific.

We can take these guys.

Yeah, for what it's worth, while I love the fact that Noesen scored on it, his shot was dead center high on net. We'd crucify a starter if he'd allowed one like that. Sometimes, good shooters beat goalies on average shots.

That said, I like that Cory read that play pretty damn well for being a man down.

The bottom line is that the way he was getting beaten during his losing streak was humbling "not even close" beating. This was not the case here. That was a forgivable goal given the shooter and circumstance and the fact that Cory only barely missed it. And, of course, the fact that he was solid the rest of the game.

Yeah I have to admit thinking dear god if one of our goalies gave up the Noesen goal it'd be Armageddon here. As good a shot as that was, it was still way off angle.

it reminded me of the pandolfo (i think?) goal in kovalchuk's first game for us...against the leafs, i want to say? don't remember if it was the tying or go-ahead goal

edit- nevermind lol. i just re-watched it and it's pretty much nothing like that except the angle

I've come to peace with the fact that goalies are humans and sometimes they let in goals that they'd stop 99.9% of the time otherwise. The annals of Youtube and history in general are full of otherwise above-elite goalies letting in unscreened shots from the blueline or further. It's going to happen eventually. Everybody has a stinker occasionally.

Eh the statline flattered Cory tonight, he should have given up three bad goals but for the grace of a quick whistle in the third period and an offside in the first he only gave up one bad one that counted, the usual shortside special that took the air out of our early start, not to mention his usual shoddy puckhandling which almost goofed up another goal :P

This game's just indiciative of his whole Devils career, you score three, he'll give up four. You score one, he'll give up two.

The only thing this game is indicative of is the teams he’s played on during his career here. Teams that are consistently outplayed at 5v5 and lack overall skill level up front and on the back end to give him proper support.

He was adequate tonight. He wasn’t stellar and he certainly wasn’t bad. His performance was on par with a typical starting caliber goalie. Wasn’t good enough to be vezina caliber and wasn’t bad enough to be backup caliber.

Cory did his job tonight. We just couldn't score enough for him.

I did just about have a heart attack when he got caught behind the net that one time though.

I remember and I also remember that he at least had the instinct to kick the puck to the corner and get back to his net on time.

Cory is back to his old self(not the 0-10 disaster he was).

Devils HAVE TO find a way to force a Game 6.

You mean the bar down perfect shot goal? Schneider was where he should’ve been and had the majority of the goal covered. That’s not a bad goal, that’s a perfect shot.

In your opinion. That is great. Others have different or same opinion no need to try to shut down conversation with, Period.

He has allowed 4 goals in 7+ periods in this series against the top offense in the league. Some of you guys will NEVER be happy.

Goaltending has absolutely 100% not been a problem in the games he has played in.

My discussion had nothing to do with Cory's performance. It was about others being allowed to have an opinion other than OP.
Thanks

i'd start kinkaid in game 5. that's not a condemnation of cory's play last night, but i think kinkaid gives us a better chance at a win

I would have went Kink in game 3, buts since we've made the switch, I'd stick with Cory, he's played well.
