I'll keep this short and sweet while others can add to this thread.

Bratt was like Elias 2.0 on the ice. He's been incredible thus far.

Hall may have woken up after I thought he would be hibernating until 10 games down the road. Thanks for making me eat crow, Taylor. Yum, Yum!

Gibbons just continues to be an EXCELLENT 4th liner for us. He's our new Carter.

Cory was Cory and I think I saw him sipping a Martini while enjoying the Bratt Show.

Oh and LoveJoy SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS SUCKS.....and oh yeah....SUCKS! Please get rid of him.

I'm done.

Thoughts, anyone?

Team is flying and has outworked both COL and Buffalo.

Now let's get PZ going on the scoresheet and hopefully Palms and Stafford are back sometime this week.

LJ played terribly, the only Devil who did not have an excellent game.

LoveJoy should not be ANYWHERE near the ice this Wednesday 'cause if he is, it will almost surely lead to a Goal against us(or if not, make things more difficult for Cory than they should be).

It's bad enough the Devils have to worry about a high-octane offense like the Leafs this wednesday but they don't need to have to worry about one of their own players, too. Come on....

So I watched the replay on MSG and I don't understand some of the Butcher/Mueller criticism I saw earlier. I thought both were fine. Of course they did make some mistakes, they're rookies (or almost a rookie in Mueller's case), but for the most part I thought they did a great job cancelling out their forwards, clearing rebounds, and moving the puck out of the zone.

I really don't fault Mueller for the play that led to Kane's PPG. Yes, he was deep, but there was only one other Devil deep, and three Sabres were deep. The other two Devils pk'ers should have covered that.

Both guys are still rough around the edges, but yeah they aren't nearly as bad as some claimed.

There was some weird negative talk for a good chunk of the game. The Hall stuff got proven wrong in a hurry, and the Zacha stuff is really overstated too.

Lovejoy was the only real negative, and even that wasn't so bad considering he was just filling in as the 7th because of injuries. We didn't give up much of anything in this game.

Very happy with this start.

Biggest complaint is that Zacha hasn't done much in the 2 games after an excellent preseason.

Hopefully he'll start to show up on the score sheet soon

Mueller has looked fine so far. He’s a young player playing in only his 2nd game with a new team. Regarding the goal you mentioned... to me, the only thing he did wrong there was not keeping the puck deep, but I like that he was aggressive in keeping the play alive. The goal against was on Santini and whoever the other player that whiffed on Kane. That play should’ve been dead when Santini got to the puck.

The Hall stuff is ridiculous. He’s not the type of player who is going to be an all star in the defensive end and that’s what people seem to be looking for in their criticisms of him. He will float... then fly down the ice with the puck. Zacha I’ve been happy with... they are asking him to take on first line defensive duties and I haven’t seen much to be worried about yet. Factor in that chemistry isn’t their with changing line mates and I just think ppl need to be patient on a 2nd year player.

I like Mueller, he has been a pleasant surprise for me, but when a defenseman pinches, he better make sure he doesn't leave his partner out to dry or he has to share the blame. But he's learning and he'll get better at picking the right times to pinch and when not to.

I agree, the play starts because of him but our other 2 players looked almost afraid of Kane on that play. Mueller is definitely one of the keyed on players by our resident HFboards complainers though.

Meh...invisible mostly. Had a few good plays that didn't lead to anything, other then that he was just on the ice to hit people and get in some faces. He isn't going to be staying around much longer this season

Mueller and Butcher were both serious improvements on most of the bottom-4 garbage we've had floating around the last few years. Some people are emotionally invested in questioning those two, so they're going to keep it up until either Mueller/Butcher hit rough patches or it becomes basically impossible to criticize them anymore. Butcher in particular should be above that - last night being only his second pro hockey game ever.

I was able to watch the encore broadcast. Very happy with the team and the performance. That said, it's pretty clear that yesterday was a good bit of Buffalo imploding. It's probably a bit of the Devils playing well, Buffalo matching up poorly with / not being prepared for the Devils speed, and Buffalo playing poorly. It's exciting to see the Devils playing so well compared to last year, but I think those who are expecting us to finish with a draft pick around 10 - 12 are probably still right.

In terms of Mueller, the real issue, IMO, is that you've got Mueller, Moore, Lovejoy and Butcher who all are weak / learning defensively. Thrown in Santini who, while seemingly sound, is still realistically a rookie. Each of these guys would benefit from playing with a much stronger partner - but instead, they have to play with each other. So, the Mueller pinch could have been erased if he was paired with a Greene type. But, Mueller doesn't have that luxury.

The young / inconsistent D is going to be our Achilles heel this year. A big team that can get the puck deep and pound it down low will give us fits. The D will get pressured into making bad decisions - which all of the players I mentioned are prone to making. I just hope these guys can learn from their mistakes over the course of the season.

Another thing I've noticed that is very positive for us this year is how good the passing has been. It's been a huge key to our success so far. For years this team just couldn't seem to pass well. Now we're seeing multiple quick passes tape-to-tape with authority. That's going to be huge if we can keep it up. It speaks to the amount of skill we've added over the last couple of years.

I didn't hate Mueller's game. That awful pinch was Joyish. Forgivable for a Rookie, for now. The second goal i would like to see him or Hayes i don't know maybe not stand there watching Kane try to stuff the puck past Cory for a whole 2 seconds. It wasn't until the puck was in the net that Mueller even tried to tie up Kane's stick.
