Definitely not a soft team.

They are being coached to not initiate. It's not their game or part of their system.

Plenty of grit on this squad.

Losing two top 4 defenders to UFA and two major injuries leads to last night.

Severson and Graves aren't top defenders though, and the biggest offenders on the blueline have been Siegs, Marino, and Dougie.

Siegs was better last not as far as advanced stats go, but Marino was awful, and the short handed goal was all because Dougie's brain stopped working. Bahl had the worst game of his career, but he was also clearly hobbled from blocking shots earlier in the game.

Smith is Smith, he sucks, but the guy we brought in to play that spot got injured long term so they are in a bit of a bind

Before last night’s game they showed a stat. I can’t remember if it was Vitek had allowed the most high danger goals in the league or if it was the Devils goalies combined that had allowed the most high danger goals in the league?

The number was 16 and that was before the game started.

And I "probably" don't give a sh*t what that never-will-be has-been neanderthal says.

Are people ignorant or intentionally conflating goonery with physical players?

I mean I think everyone knows that they aren't remotely the same thing?
You know what I'd love? A Matthew Tkachuk, Tom Wilson type. Tkachuk is/was EXACTLY the type of player this team needed/needs.

We all would love one of those players. Every team would love one of those players. Which is why they're rarely available.
Except that player still wouldn't have deterred someone like Colton or Trouba or Marchand from cheap shots and dirty hits.

They aren't, your right. But they were regular minute munchers on a team that set franchise records.

Bahl and Smith is a big downgrade. Having those two also took the pressure off the top three you mention.

Adding a veteran top 4 LD is imperative to me, if we have aspirations of going deeper in the playoffs.

Letting them go was the right choice btw, their new contracts are putrid. But my primary fears heading into the season are being realised right now.

Suspect defensive unit and frail goaltending.

I think Bahl can be a quality defender. But he's green as goose shit still.

Smith is space junk. Jettison please. Hopefully Miller can replace really soon.

I couldn't give one iota of shit what Biz has to say. The man will call any team that falls on hard times fugazi at any given moment while still slobbering all over the knob of the Coyotes since he's on their payroll.

Yes, we're shooting the lights out on the PP. It's part of the game (not that he'd know, he never set foot on one). But the 5-on-5 play has not been as bad as it's been made out to be all year (though it sounds like it was last night, still haven't gotten to watch the game).

The defense is a work in progress. We're down our top 2 centers. 4th game in 6 days, all on the road. Context can actually be important, no matter what people think.

I'm not sure Nico or Jack make much of difference in that game honestly. Jack by himself can turn the possession game around but neither one of those guys are going to do much for the lopsided physical play we saw last night ...in fact, that is why both of them are out right now.

Something has to be done or we will just get the bitch treatment all season.
This is what i was saying,
so yes.

Sure. My comment was less about "deterrance" and more about that type of shit disturber that is also a good player being valuable and not often acquired.
nobody deters anyone from doing anything anymore.
Correct on both accounts, guys.

So can Friday come quickly so we can beat the Caps at home for the first time in a million years? Thanks.

I think we beat them once last year at home when Jack had a hat trick lol. It was an extremely rare blowout win over them.

Somehow we went 3-1-0 against them last year and even beat them in the shootout and then Luke’s OT winner in the regular season finale.

But that blowout was the only convincing win over them in years. Even when we beat them in 21-22 I remember ah OT win.
