Sure if context is completely ignored. Two thirds of our best assets from the 2015 draft and onward are either in the NHL or elsewhere not in the AHL. We are still developing the talent needed to field a good NHL and AHL roster. This just shows how far behind this franchise was in 2015. We are still trying to climb out of that massive hole we were in. It’s also no surprise that the AHL team isn’t good when only a third of your best prospects are on the team.I simply keep coming back to the fact that Shero had 5 years to accumulate assets, won the draft lottery twice and this is what we have to show for it. It currently seems inexcusable.
Hughes - NHL
Boqvist - NHL
Hischier- NHL
Blackwood - NHL
Zacha - NHL
Butcher - NHL
Bratt - NHL
Smith - WHL
Hoelscher - OHL
Clarke - OHL
Talvitie - NCAA
Walsh - NCAA
Moynihan - NCAA
Thompson - NCAA
Bastian - AHL
McLeod - AHL
Anderson - AHL
Studenic - AHL
Maltsev - AHL
Gignac - AHL
Seney - AHL
I am probably missing some but this list shows why the AHL team won’t be any good until there are more better prospects playing there and that will eventually happen when all of these college, Canadian minor league and international guys take the next step. That next step will also help the NHL roster as well. This takes time. Many people are just unaware of how bad of a state this franchise was in 2015. It sucks right now but during that 14-15 season we hit rock bottom with little semblance of any future to look forward to. At least now we have the assets and young players to build around and do stuff with.
