I simply keep coming back to the fact that Shero had 5 years to accumulate assets, won the draft lottery twice and this is what we have to show for it. It currently seems inexcusable.
Sure if context is completely ignored. Two thirds of our best assets from the 2015 draft and onward are either in the NHL or elsewhere not in the AHL. We are still developing the talent needed to field a good NHL and AHL roster. This just shows how far behind this franchise was in 2015. We are still trying to climb out of that massive hole we were in. It’s also no surprise that the AHL team isn’t good when only a third of your best prospects are on the team.

Hughes - NHL
Boqvist - NHL
Hischier- NHL
Blackwood - NHL
Zacha - NHL
Butcher - NHL
Bratt - NHL
Smith - WHL
Hoelscher - OHL
Clarke - OHL
Talvitie - NCAA
Walsh - NCAA
Moynihan - NCAA
Thompson - NCAA
Bastian - AHL
McLeod - AHL
Anderson - AHL
Studenic - AHL
Maltsev - AHL
Gignac - AHL
Seney - AHL

I am probably missing some but this list shows why the AHL team won’t be any good until there are more better prospects playing there and that will eventually happen when all of these college, Canadian minor league and international guys take the next step. That next step will also help the NHL roster as well. This takes time. Many people are just unaware of how bad of a state this franchise was in 2015. It sucks right now but during that 14-15 season we hit rock bottom with little semblance of any future to look forward to. At least now we have the assets and young players to build around and do stuff with.

It points to how few of his other moves have lead to meaningful assets for the team. Those two no.1 overall picks are the only real things at this point we have to build around despite a directive to acquire assets for 5 years. His biggest mistake was hoping Schneider would rebound this year, his second biggest mistake looks like the Subban deal and hoping Ty Smith would make the team to fix the defense. Those two mistakes murdered this season and any hope of Hall staying.

I am not sweating Hall leaving at all.

He can leave today for all I care.

Maybe wherever he goes, he won't have fans booing him for SUCKING.

I don’t think offseason moves were made to appease him. They all made sense and the costs weren’t outrageous

Costs were fair and PK made sense in a vacuum. Gusev is good but given the roster makeup I’m skeptical that deal gets made of Hall has another year on his deal.

Fair enough, by the end of the year I want more clarification on what exactly Bratt/Boqvist/Gusev really are, are they top 6 players for a contending team? Solid role players? Mediocre scoring forwards only capable of playing in the top 6? If they are top 6 guys the team can rebound next season if Hughes takes a step forward and we figure out someway to fix the defense. If not the team looks like a disaster for another few years and my patience will really be through.

The offseason moves were fine. Not every move is going to instantly turn into gold. The fact that the team got off to such a bad start didn't really allow the new additions to get comfortable. Subban is the #1 defenseman on a struggling team. He can't do everything himself (although he tries to, which is part of the problem). Gusev took a while but seems to be coming around. Simmonds has actually been one of our most consistent forwards. The new guys really aren't the problem.

Priorities:

1.) Hire a good head coach that can establish a good system and culture for this roster.

2.) Improve the defense.

3.) Find an adequate goalie to play with Blackwood. We need to achieve league average goaltending.

Yeah I agree with this, but I also think it's reasonable to expect this roster to show something under Nasreddine before guaranteeing Shero is the man to do the job.

And they have two more years of PK. He can rebound next year. Get him a partner with some wheels and get a competent coaching staff

maybe....I’d rather Shero retain some money and move him to the next sucker to get some assets back

It’s going to be a high pick this year probably with an extra first rounder. It would be nice to actually start having a competent team next year. PK can maybe be part of the team righting the ship. This season isn’t the time to evaluate NJ players.

I'm done defending him.

Just damn tired of continously pointing out the same thing over and over and over again to those complaining about his social media presence....

...just do whatever you want (and this is also directed to everyone else). I'm done.
I just don't really think his social media activity has any bearing on his on ice performance. Thats all.

I think Subban just needs a swift kick in the ass. One small period of everyone hating on him and he recommits and has a great second half. Will earn him more endorsements for next year anyway.

Yes it is terrible. I’d gladly trade a #29 one year and a #30 another for a near top #10 pick. The chances of hitting on that pick are much greater. That’s the point. There’s nothing ridiculous about pointing out who the Devils could have picked because it illustrates the amount of talent available. Who came out of the 2nd round in 2012 that was really worth much? How about 2014? What’s ridiculous is acting like it wasn’t a stupid move to keep the 2012 pick lmfao.

I think people would have traded McLeod for two firsts the minute he was drafted, but that's another kettle of fish :P

Hie many top players have changed teams since Shero got Hall? I am not sure but I don’t think that many. Shero did fine getting Palms and Vats as I see it. He’s too loose with seconds in my view but his player acquisition hasn’t really been the problem. The team has two first line vets in Hall and some tweeners in Coleman and Zajac. That’s not good enough but it’s hard to fault Shero for that. Sure he fell for Cory’s false finish to last season but in my view if a good goalie would have kept Hynes behind the bench I’d rather fail now than continue in mediocrity with Hynes.

They needed to rip the band aid off. A number of us were fooled by the injuries last year - me among them. They needed to bottom out. The brass needs to see these pervasive systemic failures at every level and fix the problems. Get another high pick and get a competent coach who can do more than offer platitudes.

This is a young team. Yes young players need to learn to be hard on the puck but tget also need to learn actual technique and improve their skills and in game IQ which hasn’t been happening. Eventually I think we will be happy we don’t sign Hall to an 8 year 88 million contract. This team will have to suck it up and draft and develop and wait for the young guys to mature.

The failure at Bingo is more concerning to me than the failure in NJ. That suggests to me they aren’t teaching t he young guys to improve.

Kind of a bad look to show himself out last night after the loss though? It doesn’t even have anything to do with his charity in Nashville
This is getting ridiculous, you have no clue what you are talking about...

Go to Hoboken or Jersey City and you will see the guys out after games all the time. I also went to 3 of the last 5 Devils games in Nashville and saw many guys out on the strip at noted bars where hockey players normally go to after games. These guys have lives man.

They must sit in a hotel room or their house after a loss and brood until they discover why they lost.
