Your post is a contradiction. The Devils cannot, by definition, have no structure but are not allowed to do whatever. There must be some sort of structure, otherwise they would be allowed to 'do whatever'. That's why I responded as I did. You projecting your feelings about the coach on to Taylor Hall is rich, however.
So you dont think its possible that the coach’s system is practically nonexistent but he doesn’t want them off doing whatever they want?

Seems pretty logical to me hence he is a bad coach. He cant instruct them on what to do/where to be but makes sure they dont do specific things he doesnt want done...

Could be buy-in from the team has waned, maybe they're not high on the new coaching additions this year, who knows. Failure of this magnitude on the power play is a coaching problem no doubt. Plus the team definitely feels off much of the time and dysfunctional.

If this road trip is an abbreviated version of the last disastrous outing, then the team has pretty much passed a point of no return this year because they're not even a shadow of the club that clawed back into games and often found ways to win last year.

If anything, they're consistently finding ways to lose.

the PDO argument is fascinating though, you have to admit.

Sort by PDO, and you'll see we're 2nd to last in the league. our SH% isn't THAT bad (8.7%), but it's still bad

This contradicts everything the team has said publicly about their coach. Now, could they be lying, absolutely. But that's not how they talk about him at all.

Because we also have the 2nd worst on ice save percentage in the league. Only Philly is worse. Basically we can't finish AND we can't get a save. Until one of those things changes we're going to stay in the basement.

Can we get some film and audio from a recent uber driver of theirs?

Well I can only judge it by their on-ice play

So if it isn't the coach then they've given up on him

This is one of the reasons I can't get on Hynes to the point of firing him. I think he can do more to increase the shooting percentage, at least by getting the PP going, but when you look at his goalies, you have a chronically injured, if not mortally wounded washed up goalie that's so much of a liability, Hynes is afraid to play him because he knows he's gonna lose his job quicker. And then he's got a backup that's the de facto starter because of it.

I think the team bought in heavy last year to being underdogs and wanted to prove everyone wrong which they did. However, I think this year I think mentally they feel like they deserve to be there but aren't putting in the work to deserve it, if that makes any sense. Happens, with alot of young teams, they make the playoffs one year then then the following year they think they are just going to be handed a playoff spot based on last year's sucess

I can see the LA game going one of two ways. I think Cory's gonna start this one and I think either this is gonna happen. Either he's gonna play a good game for the first time this season (Mrazek almost shutout LA until he was scored on with 2 minutes left in a 0-0 game) and we'll be up either 1-0 or 2-1 late and LA will tie it up sometime late in the 3rd. Maybe not with the goalie pulled, but at some point after we have a lead.

Or, in typical Cory in 2018 fashion, he lets in a goal on the first shot or close to the first shot and a couple early ones again and this is another lopsided loss, this time coming to the team with the worst record in the league this year.

i'm going to go one further with this and say the devils win the game in overtime. i can see people already freaking out of us going to overtime. then we win and everyone will think we are on the right track only to get blown out the following game

LOL, the East is trash. Devils are two games out of 8th if they win their games in hand. If this team had any balls they would easily be in a playoff position. Shame...

To be honest, this is why I'm not really panicking yet. One good three or four game streak and we go from last to actually looking at playoff seeding. The East is so weird this year.

problem is jumping over that many teams…..and the fact that florida and the pens have the same amount of games played and 4 points up, philly has a point up and a game less played……just winning 2 games would only get to where ottawa is right now……

….a bunch of teams would have to go cold and with the 3 point system its ven harder

….its a hole thats not as easy to climb out of in a 3 or 4 game streak….it would take a 'decent' run of games to even start thinking of 8th place

allot of players are trying to take the game into their own hands. Defense is to afraid to take point shots for a block to go the other way. Teams are stopping are speed standing us up at the blue, and mixing in a heavy forcheck.

Im pointing to the coach , so the team should know what "system" to play , when they use X, to switch to Y

As I mentioned in another post, there's a ton of hockey left. And I do believe in the majority of these players and their abilities to be better than they've been.

This road trip could be something defining for the rest of the season. I hope they recognize that and act on it in the same way.

if we make the playoffs this year it's only because the conference is horribad

In a normal season, the Devils would already essentially be eliminated right now.

Not mathematically, but realistically due to the winning percentage required from here to 82 games, which would need to be top-3 or top-4 in the NHL.

As absurd as this sounds, you may be right.

I know we got on Ward a lot but maybe we underestimated the comfort level the Players had with him and his being replaced with someone else kind of messed up the chemistry or something.

@Bleedred , your thoughts? 'Cause I know you love talking about Geoff Ward.

Ward looks pretty good next to Kowalsky. This is another reason I fear a Hynes firing. We might get an even worse replacement. We sure did for Ward.

The philosophy seems to be to play high event hockey. And we are generating chances and shots.

But if you are going to trade chances with other clubs, you will generally only win when your goalies outplay the other side’s, and when your scorers finish their chances.

As we do neither, we lose. But I still like the philosophy better than going into a turtle defense mode.

Our goaltending is substandard. That’s the biggest issue of all.
