I think its very simple how this team goes forward. If youre signing Hall, you plan on contending by next season or 2020. Otherwise if youre not - why are you signing him? Why would you want a guy who will be 30+ by the time you start competing when you could have gotten some high end youth for him?

Am I suggesting trading Hall? No but if management is as hardset on keeping all our picks and developing prospects like some think we should be. Those who are content with missing the playoffs this year I think are those wanting the rebuild to continue - and to them I say why dont you move Hall?

Two years is an eternity in pro sports and Hall is a great player and barring injury he probably stays great for three or four years and then very good for another one or two after that. Even if the team needs two more years to add better players to the second line Hall has plenty of time to reap the benefits of that. There’s a difference between being realistic and advocating tanking or trading the team’s best player because the team looks pretty iffy right now. If Hall doesn’t sign in July/August of 2019 you cross that bridge but I think he takes the 10.5 to 11 mil for 8 years and the concern moves back to why NJ picked Zacha in the 2015 draft.

Team is 5-4-1 with a boat load of injuries less than a month in.

Talk of trading or a diminishing incumbent hart trophy WINNER.

There's not enough benzos at pfizer's corporate headquarters to chill some people out.

We don't have the talent or defense to be a contender at this point. We've got arguably the worst defensive core in the league - we desperately need a top pairing shut down defenseman.

I would absolutely trade Hall for a solid young defenseman. We're not going anywhere without improving our D. Hall was tremendous last season - but even in a career year with great puck luck and major, unexpected contributions from rookies, we still barely made the playoffs and got blown out by Tampa without them breaking a sweat.

It's unlikely Hall ever replicates last year, and at the amount he's going to command I think we'd be better off getting something for him now - a piece we can build around. I wonder what you could get if you packaged in Schneider.

Maybe trade Zacha as a reclamation project? If Lazar could get a 2nd certainly he should be able to.

Ok flame away.

Taylor Hall 2017 = 93 Points
Taylor Hall 2018 = 107 Point pace

Next.

I have seen it mentioned a bunch of times... regarding "Hall's career year"

I honestly don't understand what people's point in that is...so he never produces as high as last year again....so what? He's still going to be a very good player for a while...Elias would never again come near his 96 points from 2001 and yet he won another Stanley Cup and was an effect player for another decade. Edit: Decade plus :)

You realize we're 10 games in, right? He's on pace 73 pp assists too.

Palmieri is on pace for 115 points.
I've always wondered which parade route the Devils brass would choose.

Are we talking about an army marching straight down Market? A more subtle beginning on Lafayette? Or a grand show throughout the town via Raymond and/or Ferry?

Wow, what an AWFUL post and I don't say this often.

The defense has been fine this year.

We can't get shit for Schneider. If the last two years are any indication, he's shot, toast. The only thing you're getting for Schneider is another bad goaltender that's signed for multiple years, one for one. Think Jake Allen. What teams wants Schneider? Can you really say there's more than maybe 7 teams that don't have a goalie better than him?

And if all we're getting is a 2nd for Zacha, let's just keep him.

I take it you haven’t read the main board all that much? Or else you would have noticed what the cat just dragged in. You’re wasting your time with this, dude.

You can trade Hall, but you better get two bonafide pieces in return at minimum. Schneider is practically worthless due to the lower body injuries.

I definitely watched him last year...

I saw a kid with some talent who shined while he had the energy to do so. I also saw someone who then struggled to produce much of anything for 3/4 of the season.

Im all hopeful for Bratt to become great but Im not going to pencil him in for 40+ like its a given, especially when he was on the first line and now will be on the second (granted this could change)

You missed a kid with a ton of skill who gassed out like many rookies do.

In hindsight, the Cory trade didn't work out.

He's damaged goods now.

And no, you don't deal Hall unless he tells Ray he's walking.

I'm gonna say this as nice as possible, but your plan, it kind of sucks. And that's as nice as I can say it.

And I'm pretty sure that others here are going to agree that it's not good.

Trading the NHL MVP for a "young" defenseman is a howler!

Trading Schneider's a beauty too, good luck with all that! The Zacha for a 2nd is just the finishing touch on that masterpiece.

Look I dont want to make it look like I dont see Bratt as a future top-6 player. But as a safety net for our team as it is at 19 - not exactly the biggest confidence booster.

The second line may need more if Johansson cant figure it out AND Zajac is a perfect 3C not 2C, so thats two holes while Bratt fills one other!

I stated Bratt doesn't 'move the needle' as much as some think and even if he is a 50pt RW he does not save the entire line unless two other guys step up
My point was Bratt doesn't save the 2nd line and its false hope to folks thinking his return will take this team back to the good times.

and I dont think that should imply I think he's bad or that I haven't watched him (which is absurd!)

Man, going through Conte's picks, holy shit was he truly horrible as the head of scouting.

Got this from reddit.

Look at how bad this team was at drafting before Shero and Castron took over.

And look at some of the players that this team missed on.

People can be pissed at the Zacha pick and missing out on Rantanen, Barzal, Provorov, Werenski, but we coudl have had some damn good pieces in place.

We could've had other players like Dougie Hamilton, Tyler Toffoli and Dimitry Orlov, which would make the Zacha pick, that so far is not working out, a bit easier to chew.

IDK how the hell Conte had a job with so many bad drafts and f*** ups.

We have some solid pieces in place thanks to Shero and this scouting staff. We have a damn good prospect that probably is NHL ready now, and will no doubt be ready next year in Smith. Walsh and Davies also are pieces to be excited about too, especially Walsh.

I'm just hoping we get more suprise skilled players like Bratt, who is still an unknown as to what he truly is right now, but shows some unbelievable skill.

Also hoping they find a goalie for the not too distant future.

This is really interesting, although I'm very surprised that Tedenby and Josefson actually turned out to be a yes (and very ones back then) for ''Conte's choice better?''. Considering striking out on those two picks alone were killing us by the end of Lou/Conte's tenure.

I'm a little confused by some of this though. It says Rask was the BPA when Frazee was picked, but Rask was picked 21st overall in that draft and Frazee was picked at 38th. So Rask was no longer available by the time we got Frazee, because he was already taken.
