I know my guess is probably not accurate... however... Since July 1 I have not understood how Nazem Kadri would stay in Toronto as a third line center.
They need to sign Nylander then need to sign Marner and Matthews in the offseason. Their cap space is going to be completely gone and add to that they REALLY need to beef up their defense if they plan on winning anything. I wonder what it would take to get Kadri here as our 2c.

Alright, so that explains why they took JQ out for Stafford. Let's go Staffy, time to impress.

Welp, second gaff in one page, read it backwards. Not going to change it though, enjoy.

I’d take Kadri if they were looking to free up cap to fit Nylander & Marner long term. Maybe some kind of swap for Zacha since he’s cheap? They could use a bigger body too since they have so many smaller skill guys.

Hall - Hischier - Palmieri
Johansson - Kadri - Bratt
Wood - Zajac - Noesen
Coleman - Boyle - Dea

Looks pretty solid to me if we could pull that off.

Rather just keep Zacha

Maybe Bratt closer then we think?

Bratt's return really isn't tied to Gryba being put on waivers. Bratt obviously isn't playing tonight and the next game isn't until Saturday, so if this move was at all related Shero would just wait until Friday to put Gryba on waivers in order to active Bratt on Saturday. You also figure he'd wait to see if anyone got injured in tonight's game that would negate even having to open up a spot.

That's why the timing on this is so odd. There's no NEED to put Gryba through waivers at this point at all. Unless there's a trade in the works where NJ may acquire an extra roster player, and even then you can just move Quenneville down to Binghamton on a paper transaction for 24 hours in order to clear a spot and allow Gryba to pass through waivers.

Maybe there's something else to the timing where NJ had planned on trying to sneak Gryba down and maybe there's really not too many injured defensemen out there at the moment that he has a better chance of passing through now versus earlier in the season. I just don't see him being a possible waiver wire pickup considering any team could've just signed the guy as a UFA for more than the $700K NJ paid.

I know you're kidding...

But NJ scouts wouldn't be in Toronto for Nylander as he's not playing. It would be for someone else.
It would be VERY interesting if there was a Leafs scout in Newark tonight.
I think Nylander would round off our team perfectly. We have got 2/3 of a 2nd line and he would complete that well to form an all Swedish line.

TOR is in a tough spot with Nylander. He wants more than they want to spend on him but they can’t trade him in anything less than a slam dunk trade based on statements by GM Dubas that they would keep him. This may drag on for a while since TOR is winning and doesn’t appear to be missing a beat without him.

I am curious at who they might be trying to get a look at.

Kadri becomes more intriguing if Zajac has to miss any significant time.
There is no way Leafs trade Kadri. He is a back to back 30 goals scorer who is a strong two way player making less than $5 million a season.

It makes zero sense for the Leafs to move Kadri. They have no need to move out salary this season. I suppose Kadri is at the peak of his value right now, but I'm not sure why they would move him unless he demanded a trade.
