Grabner hasn’t even been using his speed at all. He coasts 90% of the time and isn’t a threat.

That's the biggest thing I've noticed. He hasn't pushed the pace at all this series and did so sparingly since the acquisition.

Sadly it seems that despite his physical skills for some reason he just isn’t a stylistic fit on this team. Not sure if it is lack of chemistry or they have asked him to play differently or what. Someone alluded to Grabner being good in a zone defensive scheme while NJ plays more aggressively at forward. Shame really. On paper I can see why he appealed to Shero.

He is slow as molasses and he doesn't play special teams.

I didn't watch him play before he got to NJ. What did you see or not see that suggested a fit issue to you? That's not provocative, that's a real question - as noted, I didn't watch him, but understood why, on paper, he might have looked attractive and would like to hear the other view point.

I think it's largely because this board has a problem with trading any prospect or young player.

I don't think anybody saw Grabner being this bad.

Damon Severson is a much, much better player than John Moore. It isn't really even worth debating IMO.

You can do both. Just because you sign Carlson doesn't mean you don't continue drafting and developing DMen. I would put major money that our first round pick this year will be a lefty DMan.

I'm tired of watching Vatanan get caught from behind and getting his stick lifted. Butcher at least is shifty, but outside of that not one of our Dmen can keep up with these guys.

and this is exactly why. there is a very real possibility that we get swept, grabner and maroon walk, and it was all for nothing. if you want to be a buyer at the deadline, that's fine. but to acquire 2 players that play the same position when we have much bigger holes to fill didn't make sense then, and it doesn't make sense now.

if the goal was to make the playoffs, then surely we should have traded for a defenseman. or a goalie. not 2 left wings. but putting that aside for a moment-

let's say hypothetically that the rangers draft a severson-ish type defensive prospect with our pick next year. or even merrill-ish. would you rather have that prospect, or have the good timey playoff feels/get swept in the first round?

Grabner was a logical trade that just isn’t working out.

I had no problem with the deal, it just isn’t working out. As was already said, I don’t think anyone saw him being this bad. He’s been the reincarnation of Jacob Josefson, if Josefson were to be caught in his end so much, which he never really was. At least not as a Devil, but he was an eyesore with the Sabres.

I'd much rather see Bratt in over Stafford. Let the kid play over the veteran who coasted in most games he played this year

Hopefully he'll get that opportunity in Game 4 but with our Head Coach? Not holding my breath.

1) I don't understand whats up with Gibbons since the injury. Hasn't looked great, Coleman basically stealing that role. Shame about Grabs, the guy is dangerous and should be making a difference but he's not.

5) As much as I love Bratt, the kid can be a defensive liability at times

Still can't or probably will never understand Hynes outright refusal to throw Bratt out there. I've heard explanations(ie assumptions) by some here but the only person who knows the real reason is bald and is behind the bench alongside Tweedle-Dee(Nasreddine) and Tweedle-Dumb(Ward).

It's also possible that we go on a run. There's only one way to find out.

I find it hard to believe that Shero would pass up a sensible deal for a team need, so I'm inclined to believe that there was no sensible deal for a defenseman. He felt the team earned help, and he got them two players he and his staff thought would help. I have no problem with that.

Take it for what it's worth, but last night I sat next to a guy who played in the ECHL and coaches hockey in north jersey. He was saying he knows John Carlson's brother and plays hockey with him. He said he has talked to his brother about the situation in Washington and his brother can't see him staying there.

Does that mean he wants to come here? Who knows. But with his family being here or whatever he definitely could have an interest.

I've seen this brought up other places as well. It be nice to have someone "come home" like Palms did. Who knows if it is true, but I would love to see this happen. The Devils are headed in the right direction.

Fairly confident Shero knows we need a couple upgrades on defense to get to where we all want to go

it's been explained to you many, many times. bratt has played like garbage over the last 2 months and he doesn't deserve (or need) to be in there
