“It looked like he’s been off the ice for a little while, and needs to really put in a couple of hard months, training wise. I think he’s looking forward to the opportunity, he looks very...comfortable on the ice in terms of his own..confidence level. But he needs to understand how much more competitive it will get between now and training camp.”

Not exactly a glowing review from Sweeney. Basically said he was coasting out there with no intensity

I read that this morning and I took it as the kid needs some maturing and needs to understand what has to be done to make it to the NHL. It looks like this camp was a wakeup call for him and Sweeney is calling him out on it

“His steadiness. He’s smooth with the puck, his transition in his skating is smooth. His ability to get up ice rather easily should transition well over here. He played a bit of a safer game on the big ice there, but, especially in the World Junior, he showed the ability to really be active when encouraged to do so. He’s played a safe game to survive, playing with men since he was 17...but he’s going to be encouraged to be active (here). I think that confidence will play to him.

“It’s just going to be the adjustment to North America. I think we’ve talked about it and it’s pretty well documented how good of a skater he is. He’s a smart hockey player that knows how to defend. Confidence, confidence in how to finish plays, confidence on when to jump into plays. All those things, we’ll see how quickly he adapts to that. But he’s playing 23 minutes-ish a game over in the Finnish Elite League as a young kid. That’s an impressive stat on a good team. We’ll see how he blends in. There’s going to be opportunities for him to push and we look forward to seeing where he ends up.””

From Langenbrunner. You seem to be missing the point of this. I'm not arguing that Vaakanainen is NHL ready, doesn't have anything to work on, and such. I'm calling out that hack, Haggerty, for doing his typical shit. Going off a 4 day DC to form a legitimate opinion on a player is f***ing stupid. There is a difference between what the Bruins brass are saying than what Haggerty is saying.

The bruins gm was saying he wasn’t ready for development camp essentially. Haggerty was saying from his view vaakananien didn’t look like a first round pick. I think haggerty went over the top. But I don’t think his short view assessment was wrong. He didn’t look good probably. Not 1st round pick good. If he had said “vaakananien was pretty average, looked like he lacked an extra gear all week, for a first round pick he has to be better than that.” And left it at that, maybe it would have been better.

Haggs likes to complain about the Bruins because he is catering to the large segment of the population that likes complaining about things. As long as he continues to be a downer he'll get clicks and views. We have some posters here like that: nothing the team ever does is good enough, every other team's players/picks/prospects are better, our management team sucks, coaching is bad, scouts are rubbish, all of it. Those are the types that eat Haggs' shit sandwiches. He will keep doing it until people stop reading.

If you don't mind me asking, were you evacuated in Colorado our California? Or something completely different?

Either way hoping and praying that everything is okay.

If you live in or around Boston it was my business and building in Medford last week. Still coming to grips over it.

I will tell you one thing humans can be amazing and it's a true lesson in times like these. Thanks for asking.

Sorry to hear that, terrible to hear. I hope that you get back in business soon!

Not saying Haggerty is right but for me I think whatever they saw may have figured in to the John Moore signing for 5 years. It would appear that they don't feel any of these LHD are all that close to making an NHL impact at more than fill in basis.

Valid point Lou. A little scary to think of.

Or... maybe Seattle exp draft trade fodder?

That definitely could be. Zboril and Lauzon have only had one year in the NHL, Urho hasn’t played in NA. Moore is insurance incase they’re not ready. If one of them forces their way onto the roster, they could make room with a trade.

Most likely all three will play in Providence this season.

When is the expansion draft for Seattle, 2 years from now? At that point, John Moore would have 3 years left on his contract with a cap hit of 2.75M. That wouldn't be a bad number AAV or term to go with in a selection.

I wouldn't say it's scary. Vaakanainen hasn't played any NA pro hockey yet, so unless he has a massive camp, I don't think it's terrible for him to play in the AHL. Zboril has 68 AHL games, and Lauzon has 52, and dealt with some injuries. There all 21 or under. Going into next season. Maybe it's just a matter of Boston not wanting to rush any of them. They have the depth in the NHL to let them play and gain more experience in the AHL. I'm sure they'll get looks with injuries. If these guys were coming up on 150-200+ AHL games, and were 23-24 years old, and Boston made this signing, then I'd start being a little nervous.

I went to the last 3 days of DC and Vaakanainen struck me as for better description to nice and having fun. He clearly is an excellent skater and he seemed upbeat and enjoying the group which I thought was a good thing but he was off and I was pretty happy to hear he’s been off skates awhile.

I remember thinking DeBrusk looked out of sorts his camp only to find out from a parent who was sitting next to us that Jake hadn’t been on skates for weeks before he laced them up for camp

The thing is I was aware he played big minutes against men in the top league in his country

If he looks out of sorts in 3 months that’s another story
