Local Detroit sports radio station WERD broke the story yesterday that HFNHL Red Wing captain Scott Nichol was on the verge of being traded and today it was confirmed he is heading for sunny Florida. The trading of Nichol creates a big hole as he is the team’s best defensive forward and PK specialist. His strong faceoff performance will also be missed. Surprisingly no roster players will be coming back in return. Instead the Wings receive the rights to defensive forward prospect Eric Wellwood. In other news the Central division teams continue to spin their wheels as they take turns trading victories. Last night the Wings defeated the Blackhawks to tie up that series up at one game a piece as well. If the trend holds true the Preds are due for a victory over the Wings tonight. As a result, three of the five Central division teams (Chicago, Columbus, and Detroit) are currently tied with 9 points each.
