Local Detroit sports radio station WERD broke the story yesterday that HFNHL Red Wing captain Scott Nichol was on the verge of being traded and today it was confirmed he is heading for sunny Florida.

The trading of Nichol creates a big hole as he is the team’s best defensive forward and PK specialist. His strong faceoff performance will also be missed.

Surprisingly no roster players will be coming back in return. Instead the Wings receive the rights to defensive forward prospect Eric Wellwood.

In other news the Central division teams continue to spin their wheels as they take turns trading victories. Last night the Wings defeated the Blackhawks to tie up that series up at one game a piece as well. If the trend holds true the Preds are due for a victory over the Wings tonight. As a result, three of the five Central division teams (Chicago, Columbus, and Detroit) are currently tied with 9 points each.

Rumour has it that Henrik Lunquist will be the next captain of Detroit Redwings and soon after will be shipped out to division rival St Louis Blues for Jimmy Howard.

Woe to be a captain in Detroit nowadays...

Whose next on the chopping block? I bet there is a long line of volunteers.

LOL. Star dman Kimmo Timonen is currently an assistant captain and may indeed be the next to wear the 'C'. He has been "available" for awhile (I've marked my available list on the rosters page) but while some have kicked the tires no one has come with an offer I could accept for someone of his caliber. Maybe making him captain will change that.

To tell the truth I had fully planned on keeping Nichol thinking he was worth more to the Wings than his trade value but Brock came to the table with a serious offer and so the deal went down in short order.
