I believe in the Yzerplan and all but some of these movies..eessh

Granted it’s so nice to finally see someone in charge that isn’t afraid to snatch free assets and take chances on a team that is at the bottom of the barrel

Depth move for GR I would imagine.

They're already healthy scratching McIlrath some nights in GR, so another vet doesn't help them.

Probably so they can still field a team if they trade Green and/or Daley.

This is the most likely answer. With DeKeyser pretty much done for the year, Hronek on IR, Ericsson perpetually banged up, and Daley and Green likely gone by Monday, the Wings need a warm body or two on D so they don't have hurt GR's playoff chances and/or burn some of their 4 post deadline call ups to ice 6 D at the NHL level.

He got picked up on waivers, he needs to stay on Detroits roster

I mean there's no rule that says he has to stay on the NHL roster... The Wings could put him back on waivers right away and try to send him to GR right away. That said, considering Detroit is first in waiver claim order it's possible other teams wanted him as well, and if not the Sens can re claim and immediately send him to the AHL, making whatever the Wings paid Ottawa for the claim a complete waste.
