Don’t see too many 7th Rounders signing an NHL contract at 18 years old, but this one was a no-brainer. Another great value pick for Detroit.

Basically became a PPG player at 18, after being one of the younger players drafted last year. He’s definitely not one of these overage types who’s numbers skyrocket because of their physical maturity and experience. Great vision as an offensive player. Lots of Robbie Fabbri to his game. He goes and gets the puck, and makes things happen.

He likely returns to the WHL next year, but likely not with Kamloops, although playing for Hay isn’t a bad thing in Detroit’s mind.

We’ll see how that shakes out, and it’ll be interesting to see if he plays any games in Grand Rapids (on his ATO) for the remainder of the season. He’s added about 15 pounds of muscle since the draft last year, so we’ll see if he can hang in an AHL game.

Too much vision as a prospect, not to get an NHL contract. Just didn’t think it would come this soon, but he was getting an ELC next year regardless, so may as well give it to him now..
