since it sounds like Stepan to Ottawa is being discussed, what would it take for arizona to offload Stepan to Chicago?
a few thoughts why:
-dach is injured and out for a little while
-arizona really needs cap space and had very little room or flexibility to do anything
-stepan is in the final year of his contract so this doesn't impact chicago's long term plans
-chicago could likely acquire Stepan cheap to clear cap for arizona (maybe for a 3rd at this point?)
-stepan could keep the 2/3C spot warm until dach returns, then when Dach returns he can play on the wing until he gets back up to speed and then Chicago could flip Stepan at the TDL for a price greater than they acquired him for
-chicago is currently sitting on cap space with only strome to bridge, but have a lot more potential cap space to go over the ceiling with smith, dach, nylander, and shaw all potentially/likely starting the year on LTIR
-this could avoid forcing too many rockford players up to the NHL too soon as injury call-ups when they aren't ready yet or will barely play
