Derek knew he was going to retire at the beginning of the season.

So this helped him to hang up his skates

But he was supposed to join the Florida coaching staff as an assistant, but the Panthers changed their coach to Joel Quenneville so what's next for him? He was a good captain even though he was a fourth line player.
