Has anyone ever seen a delayed penalty where it wasn't enough to just deflect the puck, but someone had to have possession before the refs would blow the whistle?

But apparently, for off-side it's now the opposite? Because yes, Makar didn't touch the puck till the off-side player touched up, BUT in what world are we saying Makar didn't have possession or wasn't "in control" of that puck? Have you watched Cale Makar? Pretty tough to say he was not in control at that moment lol

He had possession and control, unfortunately neither of those things are what is used to determine to call a delayed offside, offside. he has to do one of the following for it to be offside. Touch the puck ( he didn't until the play was onside), attempts to gain possession of a loose puck(he already had possession), forces the defending puck carrier further back into his own zone(wasn't forcing anyone), or who is about to make physical contact with the defending puck carrier(nope).

To whistle down a delayed penalty you need to have control of the puck, deflecting it isn't enough, you need to propel the puck. Control of the puck is defined as the act of propelling the puck with the stick, hand or feet. Control of the puck is not lost when contact with the puck is made by an opponent, the boards or the net, provided the player in control of the puck continues propelling the puck.
