A lot of you putting up Ceci/Boro next year when a guy like Claesson could easily take it from em.

Claesson is ridiculously underrated. Im not saying he will but he could be ahead of them in depth chart right now.

Also, watch out for VIKSTRANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.

Cowen - Karlsson
Methot - Gryba
Phillips - Wiercioch
Corvo

Seperating Methot from Karlsson really solidifies the d-core from top to bottom. When EK and Gonchar went down, Methot turned into a rock that was fully capable of making his partner better, and he even showed great skill when on the breakout. I see very little reason to keep him beside Karlsson playing the Kuba role when he can instead make our 2nd pairing a strength, not a weakness. Cowen is the perfect partner for Karlsson - plays like Methot, just isn't a polished defensively and isn't as good on the breakout, which doesn't matter because Karlsson takes 90% of the breakouts anyways. It's masking weaknesses while promoting strengths. I fully expect MacLean to seperate Methot and Karlsson come October.

Way too early for Cowen to have that much defensive responsibility. He was torched in the pitt series. He needs at least two years in a limited role before he can become a number 1 pairing guy.

I agree with this assessment and your lineup. I think Cowen will complement Karlsson. He has more offensive upside than Methot. Methot Gryba could be 1st PK, Cowen Karlsson 1st PP, Phillips Wiercioch 2nd PP. A lot less jockying around in the lines. Corvo when in could maybe replace Phillips on the PP.

trade karlsson for 1st overall pick, because we got karlsson at 15. 15th -> 1st is good asset management (pick busts) karlsson never regains his confidence and retires four games into the 2013-2014 season

lose cowen to offersheet because we can't afford him (compensation 3rd round pick. pick busts) cowen leaves his nhl career before the season starts to become a stand-up comedian

trade methot for foligno (mike) methot plays well for new jersey, but like many defensemen there, he finds himself lost in obscurity.

2013-2014

phillips - gryba
wiercioch - corvo
claesson - wideman

2014-2015

wiercioch - gryba
phillips - wideman
claesson - ceci

2015-2016

wiercioch - gryba: wiercioch develops into 60 point defenseman, gryba becomes an elite shutdown defenseman with some puck moving ability

claesson - ceci: claesson becomes like prime volchenkov, ceci becomes prime kuba

phillips - wideman: phillips continues to slow down, but is an okay #6 defenseman. wideman becomes great bottom pair puck mover with some power play ability

sdao = carkner

2016 - 2017

VIKKYSTRAND - gryba: wikstrand comes in and puts up 100 points, gryba continues to play strong defense

wiercioch - ceci: wiercioch and ceci find great chemistry. anchoring the first power play pairing, they each put up 60 points.

claesson - wideman: best bottom pair in the league

carkner

2017 - 2018: karlsson returns and signs a one year, one way, 1 million dollar contract with us because he's number 1 (he takes #1 on his jersey as well). he takes over lawson as our number 1 goalie, and places third in team scoring (behind wikky and condra). karlsson backstops us to our first stanley cup in modern sens history.

defense pairs the same.

Brilliant post. I think what is overlooked here is the importance of the re-acquisition of Matt Carkner; very well thought out.
