meh i thought they played okay today
Agreed. Allen was bad. The first goal shouldnt go in and i thought 1 or 2 others were stoppable.

But not to pile solely on allen because binningtons been bad since december whether people like admitting it or not.

The defense in front of them could be better but our goaltending has made it looked worse than it really is.

They are tired and worn down. They'll never actually admit it, nor should they. But we essentially started playing playoff pace hockey last January, then went on to play 26 of a possible 28 games from April to June. Couple all that with their style of play and this is what you get - mental and physical fatigue going down the stretch of the following season. We banked our gravy points in the first 4 months and now we're just kinda treading water, but hey, at least we're in a slump as defending champs and not perennial chumps.

He is going through tough stretch where seems like he is on ice for every goal against, but I don’t think he was at fault for any of them today. Just snakebit.
Yeah, he was definitely 6th out of 6 on the 2nd goal. The forwards got trapped leading to a 4 on 2, Petro got beat to the edge, and Allen shouldn’t get beat short side from that angle. Everything is just a mess right now.

First 10 minutes or so were bad. Played fairly good after.

Just finished watching the game. Here are a few takes:
  • The players look tired, rattled and frustrated. That frustration has led to them getting away from their game. Everybody is trying to do too much, and do it all themselves, and they are forgetting to play as a five man unit. The good news is, I don't see an ounce of quit in these guys. This was evident in how feisty they played. Nobody is giving up. I also think what happened to Jay Bouwmeester affected the team more profoundly than may have previously thought. The really look rattled out there.
  • Allen has to be better. We all know he can, we have all seen it. To be fair, the same can be said about Binnington lately. While the defense, (not just the blueliners but the forwards too), are a big part of a goalies success, as the last line of defense the goalie has to come up with the big save once in a while to bail the team out. Binnington did that in the playoffs last year. Not to be too doom and gloom, but if we don't get that from at least one of our goalies in the playoffs, we aren't going far.
  • Justin Faulk cannot defend to save his life. Some posters here have said that he actually is better in this regard than he is given credit for. This also came from a couple of Carolina fans. I have been watching and waiting all season, and I am just not seeing it. He is a bigger, slightly less talented version of Kevin Shattenkirk. A PP specialist PMD with a great shot. The faster everybody acknowledges this, and puts him in a position to succeed by using his talents in a sheltered role, the better the trade and extension will look. Right now he is forced into a role he is not suited for.
  • The PK is a real problem. I don't think many people realized just how important Jay Bouwmeester was to the team, especially when we are short handed. Getting Sundqvist back will help with this, but somehow those minutes JBo logged on the PK will have to be replaced. I wish I had an answer as to how.
Just My two cents based on my eye test.

I can’t wait for Faulk to bust out like our last whipping boy Sanford.

What I want to know is HOW is the team "tired" didnt they just have 10 day break during the ASG ? Maybe its time to send some kind of player. Maybe sit Perron o'Reilly and Faulk. For DLR, Brouwer and Mikkola. Then the next game sit Schenn, Schwartz , and Petro. Sanford played well and arguably the best player they last 10 games!

if you've experienced something very mentally tough for you, you are not mentally but also physically very tired. Believe me, as what happened with JBO has a greater impact than most people think, and you can not put that quickly away from you because they do so much together. I think most players need extra support to to handle this.

Sorry for going GDT AWOL. In NYC for my birthday, so thanks for picking up my slack. Hopefully they can win another game at some point ;)

The Blues are hanging on to first by a thread - if this slump continues they will have to start trying to just hang on to a playoff spot. The rest of the Western Conference is closing in.
