They have less 5 on 5 talent than you imply, especially with JVR out & especially with their goaltending. Now, when JVR comes back, and IF Patrick & Lindblom continue to improve their production, then they will be pretty talented.

I’m also not saying I wouldn’t hire Quenneville. I’m just laughing at how with fans the grass is always greener with a different coach, even if that new coach had the same complaints levied against him by his former team’s fanbase. Fans are going to blame the coach if their team isn’t winning, because they always overrate their team’s talent levels, don’t blame their heroes, & think a coaching change is all they need to win. Hence you end up with the proverbial revolving door & revolving similar complaints from fans.

I've never seen Chicago fans complain that their coach runs a system that won't beat NHL goalies.

This is true.

Then again it’s been hard for this clown show of an organization to fire him after (@Captain Dave Poulin need a game count) disastrous games.

Just plowing through these Fire Jeff threads - seems like yesterday we were on Part III and wow here we are just weeks later at 5.

Would like to revisit Quenneville firing - if Hexy is serious about winning, he should explore hiring him.

He's serious about making the playoffs and then being serious about winning three years from now as long as there aren't any hiccups so that he can add years to the timeline.

Before the Blackhawks started winning, they made the playoffs once in 10 years.
During that stretch they went through 9 coaches.
They also went through Murray, Pulford, Smith, Pulford at GM before Tallon took over in June 2005.
Tallon made three good trades, signed two key FAs, and didn't blow two top draft picks
Not sure Quennville was a better HC than Savard, replaced him at just the right time after the core players were added.

Drafting:
2005: #7 [Jack Skille], #108 Hjalmarsson
2006: #3 Toews
2007: #1 Kane
2008: #11 [Kyle Beach], #69 Ben Smith
2009: #28 Dylan Olsen, #59 Brandon Pirri, #149 Marcus Kruger
Bowman took over in July 2009:
2010: #24 Kevin Hayes, #60 Stephan Johns, #90 Joakim Nordstrom
2011: #18 [Mark McNeil], #24 Philip Denault, #43 Brandon Saad, #139 Andrew Shaw
2012: #18 Teuvo Teravainen
2013: #30 Ryan Hartman
2014: #20 Nick Schmaltz

First cup team 2009-10:
Inherited: Keith #54-02, Seabrook #14-03, Crawford #52-03, Byfuglien #254-03, Barker #3-04, Bolland #32-04, Brouwer #214-04, Fraser (2004 trade)
Trade: Sharp (2005, 3rd rd pick), Versteeg (2007, for Bochenski), Ladd (2008, for Ruutu)
Free Agent: Sopel (2007), Campbell (2008), Hossa (2009), Madden (2009), Kopecky (2009)

Hextall math:

Play the "best available players" + first year as GM doesn't count + 3 years to develop some players = cup in 30 years

i mean this is the reason why the flyers were good so many years because we always hired good coaches, after lavy, this team has never been the same. the flyers need to go back to getting quality coaches, no more inexperience, no playoff coaches. if it doesnt work out, rinse and repeat, that's all you can do.

Claiming to not want Quenneville is an extremely Philly reaction. "Why would we want that bum!? He just got fired!"

Especially rich given some of the same posters would take back Lavi in a heartbeat, a likewise stubborn coach who refused to change his system as talent slowly melted and dripped away from his roster.

Q may not want to come here, but the Flyers should have an offer in with his agent before suppertime.
