It's hilarious. A level of delusion among Canadian fans is astonishing. They really think that their local clubs tournament is more prestigious than Olympic. Lol. Even when Olympic haven't allowed NHL players it was number one tournament for Russia/USSR. In 1991 Tikhonov outright said that winning Olympic is main goal for him, not CC. In 1991 when there was no political pressure over him anymore.

Nobody in Russia gives a shit how many SC do you have. But if you have Olympic gold you are hero. It was that way and it always will be that way. Every player wants to get most prestigious trophy and for Russian players it's Olympic gold. It doesn't mean that they think that SC is piece of crap, but for them it's just club trophy. Yes, it's best club trophy in hockey, but club trophy nevertheless.

Also on this "best on best" crap. Nobody cares. All best were allowed so it's problem only for those who skipped it. Plus how people say - game will be forgotten, but result will stay forever.

Especially funny was reading those who is in denial. Like seriously? You are so insecure that you want to convince yourself that Datsyuk doesn't mean what he said? It's one thing to disagree with his opinion, but this... It's so pathetic.

Its like if youre back in minor hockey and youre a AAA team. You go to a AA tournament where you're team is the only AAA one there and you clearly outmatch all your opponents. Do you honestly think its the same as if you won a AAA tournament?
Russians do apparently. In Russia they also pump you full of drugs then they whine and blame others when they get caught. Win is a win i guess. If you have a boxing match against a 70 year old lady and only won cause she slipped on a banana peel its still a win!

Yes they do . This gold doesent mean **** to anyone outside of Russia. Nobody considers Russia as the best hockey nation now, come on they merely beat team Germany :D

Russia has been crowned king of the hockey world. Who are you to argue against the Olympic Gold Medals hanging around their necks? Canada can be proud they have Bronze Medals hanging around their necks. No one ever thought Canada would make it to the medal round, but they fooled everyone by ending up on the podium.

The whole idea of the Olympics is:

Coubertin's Olympic ideals are expressed in the Olympic creed:
The most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part, just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph but the struggle. The essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well.

Screw that politically correct BS. The only people who care about taking part or participation medals are losers. You play to win. That's the case with any sport. If your goal isn't to win you're not doing it right.

Thinking best on best doesn’t matter is asinine. Good win by Russia but they would have had a tough time if that was actually a best on best tournament

Your SKA-CSKA all star team could barely beat a German team and lost to a Slovakian team in a tournament deprived of the best players in the world. Your country is far from the “kings of the hockey world”. Even when your best Russian players show up to the WC, they cant even beat a Canadian C team. Get over yourself, this gold medal is tainted.

I can sorta see how the gold can be regarded as more important than a cup for Datsyuk. With the stacked team the Wings had, maybe it wasn't as difficult. However, normally, with NHL players included, the chances for Russia to win gold was probably smaller than the chances the Wings had to win the cup. Good for Russia for seizing the possibly rare opportunity to win the gold.

No cares about the stanley cup victories in Europe.

The only Finnish player getting credit for winning Stanley cups is Esa Tikkanen. He has 5 cups and no individual trophies.

Kurri has also 5, but only the 1 rocket gets a mention. Nobody cares about his 5 cups.

You do realize he grew up in a time that nhl games were most likely not broadcasted in Russia. He most likely grew up watching the great soviet teams at the world hockey championships and Olympics.

Also outside of North Americans and die hard hockey fans no one gives a crap about the NHL. However, everyone knows the Olympics and a medal there means you are really good at what you do.

The arguments made are like considering a premier league title more important than a FIFA World Cup. It is just hilariously close minded.
There is only one argument. International hockey is always more important than any local league trophies. And it will always be that way. Close minded indovidual might consider their national trophies as valuable as they want. Every human being has a own opinion.
