4th line C .. 7/8 mins a night 5 on 5 + PP? I dunno but I'm willing to see what that looks like for 1.5M (prorated). Assuming he's in stupid good shape and willing to do a 5 game conditioning stint with the Marlies.

40 year old Dats is better than the GOAT... lock him up for 4th line role and a PP specialist.

Are we going to Larry Murphy him if he struggles?
Kidding aside, I think for 1-1.5mil, what can possibly go wrong? Worst case is he sits in the press box and Leafs trade him to another team.

Have people not watched any of Datsyuks games?
His legs are still there, and his hands are still there.
He still turns on a dime, and thinks the game well.

I'd love to see him with the Leafs I'd we move Marleau.
His numbers aren't dominant point wise in the KHL this year, so he may be relatively affordable.

Hyman Matthess Nylander
Johnsson Tavares Marner
Datsyuk Kadri Kapanen

That's a sick top 9, and a 3rd line that can legit shut teams down.

People are complaining about Marleau, and people think it's a good idea to add a retired hockey player. Lol
He's not retired he's the 3rd top scorer in the KHL currently! He's also on the exact same pace of 3 years ago when he first left for SKA so has not really regressed.. Was still a top player when he last played for Detroit the year before.

Would be a fantastic addition to any contender but the KHL playoffs don't end until late April. The signing would have to be for next season.

Normally I'd do it in a heartbeat but is too pricey for next season's cap crunch.

Can he really be worse than Goat? He was ppg last year in the K and 3/4 ppg this year, so not awful.

Why not give it a try?

....what's with players coming back from retirement? He was sick and fun to watch but still. The leafs should get the 1967 cup winners out of retirement.

Maybe as a 4th line C. Even then, I doubt he could play at an NHL pace this season.

I could see him somewhere next year when he has a chance to start the season with everyone and not jump in mid-way (I'm aware he's been playing in Russia.)

the comparison was how long it took Willy to get back in form. I think that's a bad comparable as he obviously didn't come back ready

I walked by nylander at Yonge* station the day of his press conference. He was definitely in shape/form

leafs have gone out and grabbed a 4th line center every year before the playoffs. I can see this happening. If kadri gets suspended or one of our centers gets injured in the playoffs we are going to need the depth

I too think he'd be really good on the third line. If we could afford him I'd love to have him here as he's one of my favourite players of all time.

He didn't come back ready because he missed almost half the season. Datsyuk is going to adjust even worse. I love Datsyuk but the last thing we need is 40 year old Datsyuk, he should be no where near this team. I know the hate on for Nylander is strong here but jesus christ some of you guys are ridiculous.
And why did he miss almost half the season? His choice. And he claimed to be training the whole time too. I don't think Dats is a good idea either. But I'm willing to bet he'd come back ready to go unlike Willy is what I'm saying.
