With hands blessed by the hockey gods. Pavel scored some of the best goals in history of hockey, he even made takeaways into an art. A true hockey artist. At his peak was Pavel the best stickhandler ever?

    I think so.

I don't know if this is the same lengthy video I saw from couple years ago, but could be it. I sincerely believe we won't see another guy with the similar shiftiness/hockey IQ/stickhandling/defensive prowess like Datsyuk for quite a long time...

    Incredible ability....

    What a man.

I feel very fortunate that I was in my prime "watching years" when he was in his physical prime.

First few minutes of that were awesome, although there's no way I have time for 40 minutes of Datsyuk highlights

I second this. He was always the most exciting player to watch year in and out, but those seasons he really stepped it up to a whole other level. He was unstoppable.

One of the most well rounded and intelligent players I've ever watched. I wish he had a Hart/Art Ross or two just so the people who only look at a player's points would know just how great of a player he really was.

Probably should have a few more Selkes too.

There are another four 50-minute videos of basically every play he ever made. Including some dekes you don’t often see in his other videos because he didn’t score, but still really nice moves.

They’re divided by quarters of his careers, and shows playoffs in each. I’m too lazy to find but they’re on YouTube for sure.

In terms of pure technical ability, I agree. Even Kane probably has faster hands. But what made Datsyuk special was his creativity and how he made use of his entire body when controlling the puck and misdirecting opponents. It was head, shoulders, hands, and feet working in synchronicity.

Watch the little misdirection at 3:55 in the video. He intentionally plays the puck from stick to foot, and then kicks it behind his other foot while crossing over, as an opponent closes in on him. I think very few players in history, no matter how elite their hands, would intuitively do something like that. His hands weren't without equal, but the way he processed the game was incredibly unique.

One really crazy thing about Datsyuk that no one else has ever done at his level is dangle people when his feet are standing still. Most people need to be skating to do so but not him

Imagine him in the 1980s. Gretzky and the other "all time greats" couldn't even imagine skill like this.

Right up there with my favourite players. And honestly, a casualty of the black hole that Babcock was/is as a coach. Man nearly broke 100 points a few times in Babcock's negative offensive system. He's right up there with the best defensive forwards in the game but he's arguably the best offensively between all of them. It's a shame we never got to see him in a more offensive based system. An Art Ross or two would have looked so good beside his Selke level defence and all time great stickhandling.

Kovalev was better, but every move Datsyuk made counted and had more of and effect.

Not that much of a question. He is a Russian.

He is one of my all-time favorites to watch. Magician.
