Gentofte cannot reach Aalborg anymore. Herning still fighting for the 4th spot.

Rødovre - Herlev 3-0 [Shots 32-16].

Odense - SønderjydskE 3-6 [Shots 22-40, Sean Wiles 2G for Odense & Scott Campbell 4G (!), Kim Lykkeskov 4A for SønderjydskE].
SønderjydskE keeping pressure on Frederikshavn. Odense losing ground to Herning.

Frederikshavn now 1 point after SønderjydskE before the last round.

So the final round 45 in the regular season:
29th Feb:

Esbjerg - SønderjydskE 1-4 [Shots 16-30].
SønderjydskE secures the first spot in the league.
Esbjerg ends up third.

Gentofte - Frederikshavn 3-8 [Shots 19-55 (!), Anders Fisker 2G for Gentofte].
Frederikshavn went from 3-3 after the first period to 8-3, yet the last round loss to Rungsted with 2 seconds left to go cost them the league first spot and they end up in second place.
Gentofte finishes ninth and outside the playoffs.

Aalborg - Herning 3-4 [Shots 27-30, Kristoffer Lauridsen 2G for Herning].
Herning secures fourth spot.
Aalborg ends up eigth.

Herlev - Odense 1-11 [Shots 18-35, John Armstrong 2G 5A, Dale Mitchell 2G 2A, Rasmus Bjerrum 2G 2A, Ryan McDonough 2G for Odense].
Odense was another crushing victory. They end fifth.
Herlev massacred yet again and they end up tenth as last outside the playoffs.

Rungsted - Rødovre 4-2 [Shots 38-30, Antti Kangasniemi 1G 3A, Nikolaj M. Rosenthal 1G 2A for Rungsted].
Rungsted takes sixth spot and Rødovre seventh.

So playoff series will be:
SønderjydskE - Aalborg
Frederikshavn - Rungsted (only surprising move, that Frederikshavn would rather face Rungsted than Rødovre!)
Esbjerg - Rødovre.
Herning - Odense.

Just to sneak it in before the playoff starts... Jesus christ Herlev iced an embarrassing team the last few games. Saw them in Rødovre. Even with the home team being completely out of gas Herlev just found a way to be smaller, lazyer, slower, worse shooting and without any organization. It simply cannot be good for the product "Metal-ligaen" which the other teams are still trying to sell tickets for.

That said:

SønderjyskE in five
Frederikshavn in six
Esbjerg in four
Herning in five

Letting Linus Fagemo go apparently saved some money, but made the team far worse -*a "team without any organization" as you say Bank seems to be the end result.
With Fagemo as coach and with Conny Strömberg Herlev actually matched Aalborg and Gentofte for the last playoff spot. Without these two they just crumbled close to embarrassment.
Conny Strömberg (5G 25A) was the highest producing Herlev player even though he only played 25 out of the 45 matches.
The Danish Herlev players had a really disappointing season with Mikkel Ankjær Nielsen being the best with 8G 12A.

I gave my view on which 4 teams would make the semis before season start (SønderjydskE - Esbjerg - Herning and Rungsted). It can actually still come through, though I was surprised how well Frederikshavn has been and how bad Rungsted were at the beginning of the season.

So SønderjydskE should beat Aalborg easily with 4-0
So Rungsted takes the surprise and wins over Frederikshavn with 4-3 [probably Frederikshavn wins it, but I try to be faithful to my pre-season guess  ].
Esbjerg wins over Rødovre 4-1
Herning beats Odense 4-3 [Will be great defense against great attack and can go either way].

First round of the quarterfinal series was a very low scoring affair:

SønderjydskE - Aalborg 3-0 [Shots 26-11].
Fairly easy win for SønderjydskE.

Frederikshavn - Rungsted 2-1 [Shots 33-13].
Frederikshavn dominated in shots, but only secured the win with 7 min to go.

Esbjerg - Rødovre 2-0 [Shots 24-22].
Equal in shots, but Esbjerg had the superior goaltending this game. Each team has 9*2 min, whereas 4 of these were "dual" send-outs for each team to the box, so lots of flaring emotions.
Probably not the way for Rødovre to continue the series.....

Herning - Odense 2-1 [Shots 32-24].
Herning's great defense was able to keep Odense from scoring in their normal tempo.

So all four home teams ranked 1st-4th in the regular season won their first game, but only SønderjydskE had it more easy.

Followed by a Frederikshavn win in Rungsted(Feel like shifting Justinov? ) 5-1 after an Rungsted lead.

Rødovre lost 3-2 to Esbjerg in OT after a controversial penalty. In the aftermath of the game Mike Dalhuisen from Esbjerg tried to rile up some angry Rødovre-fans. That resulted in someone throwing a garbage-can after the referee and Esbjergs players as they waited to leave the ice. Or so I'm told. Temperaments must have been boiling.

SønderjyskE took a 2-1 win in Aalborg and Odense equalized - as the only team - with a 3-0 win in Odense.

So: SønderjyskE-Aalborg: 2-0, Frederikshavn-Rungsted: 2-0, Esbjerg-Rødovre: 2-0, Herning-Odense: 1-1 in games.

Well I had to be faithful to my pre-season guess, but you are right Frederikshavn TOTALLY dominates Rungsted, which is fairly surprising giving how problematic Rungsted have been for SønderjydskE for instance. So apparently Frederikshavn really did the right thing by picking Rungsted instead of Rødovre......

Otherwise Aalborg really gave SønderjydskE some problems and also Rødovre was very close against Esbjerg. SønderjydskE and Esbjerg cruises towards victory as well.

The second Odense - Herning game became an easy victory for Odense, so this series really can go either way.

According to Conny Strömberg EIHL is miles better than the Danish League.
http://www.hockeysverige.se/2016/03...vudtacklingarna-tillat-lagen-att-ha-fighters/

Since Conny Strömberg played for Herlev that is maybe not a surprise.
Overall quality of the EIHL might be better than the Danish League, but SønderjydskE has shown to be quite able to play well against teams from much better leagues and even beating EBEL teams and pressuring SHL and Liiga teams on home ice.

So while the top team in the Danish league is probably Allsvenskan level, Herlev was possibly as low as Swe-2 level?
Then again the Danish league is quite a good development league, since so many teams actually have 15-16 year old players getting a chance to play against men. [That is really positive in the long run].
It makes it hard to really compete, when many of the Eastern Copenhagen based teams sometimes play for less than 200 people (Herlev again), then your economic basis is not great compared for the Jutland teams that can with regularity draw over a 1000 people.

So Danish teams could be "better" with funds for stronger imports, but it would ruin it as a development league.
If you see the EIHL teams its like 2/3 or even 3/4 of the players are born outside the UK (mostly Canada).

Taking about Herlev. Kim Staal will return from Asia League to Herlev from next season.
That should hopefully give them a boost for next season as this one was a total flop.

What a night. From Twitter I gather that a Frederikshavn-player got five minutes for hitting the ref? And Rødovre-Esbjerg... A game that was hard fought but without any major or questionable hit that I can recall. The it just explode after the last whistle. The Esbjerg-players refuses to leave to ice and start - and Rødovre willingly joins - a bench clearing brawl. I think I saw a stick to the face of a Esbjerg-player at one point.

The aftermath of the Esbjerg-Rødovre game for me passes straight through the boring-territory of the sore looser one-on-one fight where the enforcer is trying to at least get some "mind game"-win out of the game and into bush league-territory.

If more of this is to come... With the quality of the Danish League as low as it is you gotta wonder if at some point it become a liability for the teams as they try to hold on to their talented players.

why did Mads Bodker decide to stop playing so early? He is playing in the NT, is hockey really that bad in Denmark that people rather decide to go in real estate business?
