The Story:

Sam Bennett has arrived.

Sort of.

Flames still not giving him his deserved ice time, but at least they're playing him at center again, and finally with wingers who are not Troy Brouwer. Three wasted years misused on the wing later. Lucic is a superstar power forward again. TJ Brodie is a 1D. Dube is a future star. Backlund is this year's Ryan O'Rielly. Gaudreau is saving all his magic for the Vegas Golden Knights. Mangiapane is a future star. Andersson is a star. Talbot is a star. Sean Monahan will probably get a chintzy PP assist. Derek Ryan is an excellent center. The Flames look poised for a fun playoff run.

No forward on the Stars is a star anymore because Seguin missed the back of the net a bunch of times and I expect that to be totally sustainable. Heiskanen is the best Dman in the series, but thankfully John Klingberg is soft and will eventually get exploited. Oh, the Flames lead the series 2-1. The Stars look poised to fire Jim Nill.

Calgary hope to take a stranglehold so they can advance to the second round for the first time in five years.

No one cares what the Stars hope, they're old. Perry already has a cup so he should just GTFO.

Out of our centres (Monahan, Backlund, Bennett, Ryan) I took a look at their average ice time over the Stars series after the claim Bennett isn't being given his fair share of ice time.

Unsurprisingly, Backlund tops that list with around 19 minutes a night. He plays on both special team units so it just makes sense he has the most ice time, and he is on one of our best lines at 5v5 to boot.

Next up is Monahan with around 17 minutes a night (fluctuates between 18-16), this may be a tad high for his contributions, but at the frequency the Flames have had powerplays it's not egregious.

Bennett is next up with 15 minutes a night. Adds up considering he didn't get onto special teams until Tkachuk went down and he took his spot on the top PP unit (unsurprisningly his peak ice time was game 2), but it's in line with the Flames trying to run three even lines at even strength this series.

Finally there's Ryan who is an average of ten minutes a night. Again, he's a big PKer so it makes sense his ice time fluctuates with the amount of the penalties the Flames take, and it makes sense he's lower down to his linemates not producing well/his struggles.

The narrative Bennett isn't getting fair ice time this series is silly, the only argument you could make is he deserves to be net front on PP2 instead of Lucic but even then he's been able to score there. His ice time fits in with what other centres are getting minus special teams, and you can hardly argue he isn't being used effectively when 60% of his lines starts are in the offensive zone.

heskinen will win a series by himself soon...but probably not this year. Future Norris winner.

Talbot can earn a nice pay raise....

Fun playoffs so far.

Bennett is a wrecking ball.

Calm Talbot is the man.

But man, Gaudreau is just not a playoff performer. So easy to shut down. They gotta put him on the 3rd line again to 'hide among the weeds'. He's best if he catches teams napping, but no one's napping in the playoffs. Play him with Lucic or Bennett or something so they can bang bodies and clear up space for him.

Don't understand Ward's decision with Tkachuk out. Lindholm should be moved to Backlund's wing. It would at least give us some semblance of a top line.
