There ya go. No guaranteed money for Cooks in 2024, could be a one year $12M deal.

6/9 of his seasons he’s gone for 1,000+. Another weapon for Dallas to pair across from Lamb for a couple of Day 3 picks. Plays wide the majority of his snaps. No brainer.

Honestly, don’t ever really remember the Cowboys being this aggressive. Creating cap room, bringing in solid pieces, letting the right guys walk, and bringing back the important pieces.

Guess this is why the Cowboys didn’t want to trade for DHop or sign OBJ.

Has anyone ever been traded this many times for as much as this guy has in his career? Total of what he has been dealt for is approaching what the Vikings gave up for Herschel Walker.

He and Eric Dickerson were each traded 4 times.

While Jerry likes to say the Cooper trade was smart to do, you’re seeing the Cowboys fix their mistake.
Exactly. Cowboys went into the 2022 season with their starting WRs as Lamb, Houston and Brown. No idea how they saw that as acceptable.

Worth noting that the Cowboys acquired Cooks and Gilmore under Cooper’s 2023 cap hit. I think Gilmore definitely makes up the difference in WR play.

They expected Gallup to return from a major knee injury playing like a true #2 WR, but all they got was #2 from him.

So a year ago they traded away Cooper + 6th for a 5th and 6th

Now they are trading a 5th and 6th for a WR who is not as good as Cooper and is older
The big difference between the 2 players is salary - Dallas sent Cooper and all of his $20 million salary to Cleveland while only being responsible for $12 million of Cooks 18 million salary for the upcoming season. So that's an $8 million savings right there......of course that didn't help Dallas at all last season. :ha: And as for age - Cooks is only 15 months older than Cooper so that's not a huge difference.

Dallas was overly optimistic on the return to health of Gallup coming off the acl mid season.

Dallas was only going to keep one of Cooper or Gallup to pair with lamb last season. Opted for the younger WR.

Really can’t be that optimistic when a guy is coming off an acl when it occurs at the mid way point of a season or later. Peterson was a freak of nature tearing his acl in week 17 and winning the rushing title the next season. Most guys don’t get back up to speed the following year unless they are fully healed be camp.

Yup. Hopefully Gallup returns to form this season, cause he was such a fun receiver to watch. Amazing footwork.

Last season, the Cowboys spent a decent chunk of the Cooper savings by giving Gallup a big raise.

Would have been fine but it was a questionable decision due to the acl injury Gallup sustained in 2021. Long term the right call but for 2022 Dallas was way too optimistic on Gallups production coming off a serious injury.
