Well, Hoff and Dads are going to make it a tough choice if they both keep this up.

Who are Hoffman's comparables?

Wrong side of 30 and yes can score. Not that great 5v5 but hell of a PP specialist.

Tell me who got 7x9? And I swear if any one says Ovechkin, you deserve to get account banned.

Certainly not 9M.

JVR didnt even hit 30 last year and he was.

Pacioretty is better 5v5 imo. And he did didnt get 9M x 7

Doubt either Hoff or Dadonov will get $9 million. Would be surprised if either got over $8 million to be honest.
Skinner was 26, hit 30+ goals four times and BUF needed scoring.
JVR has put up 30 and 37 goal seasons which is very similar to Hoffman.
As much as Dadonov is the better player, feel he is more replaceable than Hoff's shot.

Having Hoff and Tippett is more attractive to me with the goal scoring capability as Dadonov would replaced by committee of Heponiemi, Denisenko and Borgstrom's play-making ability.
Although I feel Dadonov may be easier of the two to re-sign, Hoff could easily chase a bigger offer but Dadonov seems more loyal and keeps the top line intact if need be.

To me Dads is clearly a better 5v5 player and has chemistry with the top line unlike Hoff. But at the same I don't know how well his game ages. Dads plays the game like a grinder, goes to the net and corners hard and gets hit quite a bit. Which is why he is so good on that top line but will he be able to stay healthy and effective that way? Hoff is a more sure bet, I don't see how his game or especially his shot would suddenly drop off.

Also a good point/question. We do need Dadonov's grit come playoff time as Hoff is allergic to it.
Sounds like the max we should go with Dadonov would be 4 years? $7.5 million?
Although if we re-sign both, we better be open to the idea of moving one of our prized forward prospects as we have most of the top 9 locked up for another 2-3 years.

Moving Yandle in the off-season would allow for both to re-signed but his NMC would get tricky.
One would assume he will be asked to waive it for expansion draft if Weegar keeps progressing.
We'd protect Matheson, Ekblad and Weegar and the rest of our D prospects will be exempt/too new to attract SEA.

Weegar is playing himself into a very lucrative contract, so even with Yandle gone, keeping Hoff, Dadonov and Weegar might be quite difficult.

I can't see them keeping both. Need the cap space and it's a risk signing older guys anyway. But something around that $7.5 million yeah would be fine for Dad or Hoff. The playoffs should be a big factor too on deciding who to keep.

Ya very unlikely we would keep both with all the forward prospects on their way. Going to be hard to let one of the two go though. Too many big long term deals would be cap suicide as well.

Agree with giving out 30+ deals, very risky and Borg and Weegar will get a raise, assuming Borg wakes up and starts producing. Both Hoff and Dadonov being in UFA years, we should get the best of their ability so it's still a win-win for this year and win-win next year keeping one and promoting a Tippett/Heponiemi.
Finally have some depth in the AHL to ease the UFA loss

They will get PAID. I think you guys are underestimating the UFA market. I don't see the Panthers keeping them. Love those guys but it's the market. In the end probably the smart thing as well as I feel that the worst UFA deals are handed to guys close to 30. They are still not old enough to get a short term deal and already too old that any long term contract could work out.

That's fine. If they price themselves out, go ahead. They'll be 31 when those next deals kick in with best days more than likely behind them. Having said that I'd imagine Dadonov really wanting to stay since he's been here his whole career and has a great spot on the team.

Call me crazy but I think keeping Daddy and adding Tippett replaces Hoffman THIS YEAR. He’s been kind of irrelevant. Get a defensive D and we’re ready for big time.

I think Connolly replaces Hoffmann at this rate, no? He's 2 millions cheaper and same production atm. Tippet can marinate a bit and hoping for a "home discount" contract from Daddy. Then upgrade Brown with something better (use draft picks or whatever), get Weegs back and were set?

Was just going to post saying Hoffman has looked way more engaged the last 4-5 games, still not at Dadonov's level but he has gone into the corners more and has picked it up offensively after his 10 game stretch where he had just one goal. Haven't noticed as many turnovers the last few games as well.

Last 6 games, he has 3 goals and 4 assists. On pace for 34 goals and 64 points, although I agree adding Tippett and upgrading the defense is the better play with the limited cap space we will have after re-signing Dadonov. Don't know if he gets moved this year though, seems like a good rental if they can figure out the D and lower the GAA.

EDIT- will put this convo in here
