My report on his play on December 18th :
"Brunet is a mobile puck-rushing defenseman whose effortless skating and gleaming confidence served him as a passport to the offensive zone. He flaunts his incredible fluidity and exquisite mobility by escaping pressure from his own zone with a sense of ease. His excitement to lead breakouts by foot could be seen as he made frequent escapade up the ice. He unveiled the explosivity and speed to leave opponents in the dust, yet, loved utilizing fakes and changes of direction to open up skating lanes to the other end. His glowing assurance and eagerness acted as double-edged knives, though, as he occasionally held on to the puck excessively when simple outlets were available. He could also get careless with his outlets. Although he possessed the talent to get by his poor decisions, finding the most efficient play and staying focus on breakouts will be necessary to survive at the next level. Brunet’s outstanding agility was prominent in the attacking end too, where he floated alongside the blue line, dodged pressure and stepped-up from the point. He showcased slick mitts in traffic, and even flashed a good vision on a few setups to the slots. His dynamic stance could be improved, as he slowed down and became vulnerable in corners trying to protect his puck. As a defender, Brunet possesses the quickness to stay glued to his man, but due to a lack of concentration, he frequently let enemies come out of corners. He displayed a sufficient, unexciting strength along the wall, but failed to box out on rebounds. Brunet has been on my watch-list for a long time, but after flashing snippets of high-talent here and there last campaign, he’s really coming into his own this season. He possesses the skating skills and stickhandling talent to become a dangerous offensive puck-rushing defenseman at the pro-level, but he should look to improve his decision-making, off-puck activation on breakouts and defensive focus. Could be a late-round option as an overager."
