Another 4 point night tonight. 8th in league scoring, 1st in defenceman scoring.

I can't wait to see what he's going to do to the league next year.

I know he was a WHL guy, but is he similar to Ryan Pulock at all?

They have pretty similar U18 seasons and similar size.

He’s a more fluid skater than Pulock. Pulock I would say is/was more of a physical specimen than Bouchard

Some players think the game at a high end level, this kid sees the game at a world class level.

In my dreams
Anyone have a future player projection they see in Bouchard? Also what you think he'll end up being in size/weight/whatever.

So given that he has won the past 2 OHL D of the month awards and he will contend for it again this month, I decided to look up which other CHLers have won D of the year before their first eligible draft. I only went back to 1992-93.

OHL
2016 Sergachev, drafted 9th overall
2014 Ekblad, drafted 1st overall
2009 Ellis, drafted 11th overall
2008 Doughty, drafted 2nd overall
1995 Berard, drafted 1st overall
1993 Pronger, drafted 2nd overall

QMJHL
2016 Samuel Girard, drafted 47th overall
2009 Kulikov, drafted 9th overall
2008 Marc-Andre Bourdon, drafted 63rd overall

WHL
None.

CHL D of the Year
1993 Pronger, 2nd overall

An excellent group of players and the only bust was spotted by scouts ahead of time and went in the third round.

PPG is an excellent measure of skill and hockey sense, and absolutely means something in projecting how a player will fare at future levels.

It doesn't mean one doesn't have to also watch the players and evaluate them with the eye test, but it is definitely a valuable metric.

Well, yes, if we were to do a correlation chart on OHL PPG for defensemen, then I am sure there would be a positive correlation to pro hockey success. For example, a guy with 1PPG vs a guy with 0.2PPG will most likely see the guy with 1 PPG have more future success. However, when evaluating a number of defensemen all with high PPG as in this thread, and trying to determine who is better, we will actually have to use the eye test as well. As already mentioned in this thread, guys like Ryan Murphy and Ryan Ellis had high PPG in their draft year but neither is/was better than Drew Doughty.

Detroit's Ken Holland and Kris Draper were at the Knights game tonight standing behind us. Bouchard would be right in their territory of draft spots.
