Speaking of being in the top 10, Button just posted his January rankings and he was at #10

Is it a bad sign when you search to see if there is a thread about a prospect and when you find one you realize you started it?

Would love him to end up with the islanders somehow.

The islanders need a couple Defensman in the system with big potential. I don’t see future #1 with Bouchard but I believe he will and can be a very good top4 nhl Defensman.

He’s from the same hometown as Tavares which is pretty cool.

Caught a few games in his 16 year old season and came away more impressed by Bouchard than I was of Mete. He seems like a very smart, defensively sound defenceman.

Definitely advise you to check out a game. He’s all that he was at 16, with incredible offensive instincts and considerable skill.

What's his skating projected to be like at the NHL level?

Nothing wrong with projecting to someone like Cody Franson, just wondered if that was a weakness for him.

I don’t think it’s that bad, although different players his skating kind of reminds me of Seabrook’s.

It's worth pointing out that Doughty was 1.1 in his D -1 year.

I find it incredible how he has embraced driving his team’s transition game and offense and continued to succeed statistically despite the Knights selling at the trade deadline.

He also has the 2nd most shots -of all players- in the OHL. So he's not riding a high shooting percentage, he's the real deal.

I'd take him over Boqvist IMO.

Here are some other notable PPG during their draft years:
Ryan Ellis: 1.6
Anthony DeAngelo: 1.4
Ryan Murphy: 1.3
Sam Girard: 1.1
Zach Bogosian: 1.0
Michael Del Zotto: 0.98

In terms of PNHLe which projects a prospect's future point potential at the NHL level (based on a variety of variables), Bouchard ranks 21st since 2006-07 among all CHL players (not only draft eligible players).
I've attached a list of the top 20

This.

PPG for defencemen in junior doesn't really mean anything. You still have to pass the eye test. I don't think anyone will try to argue that Bouchard is better than Doughty despite having a better PPG.

I havent seen him much but the nice thing with Bouchard is that the offense has kinda surprised everyone a bit. Hes a stud in his own end. Guys like Ellis and Murphy got where they were only because of their offense, Bouchard did it while the offense was never really expected to that level

You're not comparing like-with-like here

Bouchard is in his 18YR old season, whereas all the guys you listed were in their 17YR old seasons.

The proper comparison is:

18YR old season:
Hamilton: 1.44 PPG
Bouchard: 1.2 PPG
Doughty: 0.86 PPG
Sergachev: 0.86 PPG
(Ekblad and Bogosian were in the NHL at 18)

17YR old season:
Doughty: 1.1 PPG
Bogosian: 1.0 PPG
Ekblad: 0.91 PPG
Hamilton: 0.87 PPG
Sergachev: 0.85 PPG
Bouchard: 0.65 PPG

His 18YR old production is still very impressive, and shows how much better he is offensively than last year, but it isn't unprecedented, like the OP suggests.

PPG is an excellent measure of skill and hockey sense, and absolutely means something in projecting how a player will fare at future levels.

It doesn't mean one doesn't have to also watch the players and evaluate them with the eye test, but it is definitely a valuable metric.

I know he was a WHL guy, but is he similar to Ryan Pulock at all?

They have pretty similar U18 seasons and similar size.
