I don't want to jump too early on this but it is time to plan for the inevitable.

Call up Boqvist there is not a more exciting player in the Hawks system...OK Dach
7th D Seabrook
Waive Koekkoek
Move Keith Down the Line-Up

DeHann-Boqvist...Boqvist with our best defender
Gustafsson-Murphy...Gus with our 2nd best defender
Maatta-Keith..Two D that compliment each other
Seabrook...Wade Redden made 6M a year in the minors, admit a mistake but you don't need to play him

Good post.

Did not know this regarding Redden, how long was he in minors?

Redden spent two years in the minors before being bought out for the final couple years of his contract.

That's me in the corner
I don’t think OP was saying put seabrook in the minors, he said make him 7th and used Redden as an example for how other teams have treated big contract players to show it’s not unprecedented to scratch Seabrook.

Regardless, here’s the nmc rules per CapFriendly. Seabrook has an NMC through 21-22

What is a No-Move Clause (NMC)?

A No-Move Clause (NMC) can be added to a player's contract in the years after they are eligible for Group 3 Unrestricted Free Agency (7 Accrued seasons or 27 years of age), and has the following properties:
  • Player cannot be traded without his consent (however, the clause can specify a modified no-trade clause that limits the NTC to a certain number of teams)
  • Player cannot be placed on waivers without his consent
  • Player cannot be assigned to the minors without his consent
  • Player is not exempt from a buyout or contract termination
  • The clause can travel with the player even if he consents to being traded or is claimed on waivers
    • This requires that the acquiring team sign an addendum to the contract ensuring that the clause does in fact travel with the player (written by the player's agent)
    • If the acquiring team refuses to sign the addendum, and the player waives his clause anyway, at that point the clause may be nullified
  • If the player is traded before the clause takes effect, the acquiring team can opt to void the clause

It's all very simple. Do the Hawks brass - Stanley, Blunk, McD and down to JC - have the gonads to move Seabrook to an every 4th game 7th D man. And do they have the stones to limit Keith's minutes and remove him from the PP.

If they do, the D will improve substantially. If they don't, the problems will persist.

It's very simple - this team is married to bad contracts, nostalgia and the 'room'.

Loved what they did in their time here as Hawks and they will go down (particularly Keith) as among the greatest Hawks of all time, but like all athletes - they got old. Keith is 36 years old playing D against super fast kids 16 years younger than him and he has a TON of mileage on him. Seabrook has been visibily out of shape and horribly slow for at least 3 seasons.

Keith averages @ 25:00 TOI for his career. He's at 24:00 in 3 games this season. What's that - a shift and a half? He's effectively in the top 20 TOI leaders in the league so far this season. That's a problem.

They should be treated as such and played accordingly.

They aren't.

Until the above happens, nothing will change.
