The Czechs were nowhere near 7-1 bad against Sweden so I hope they keep it close, at least for some time, today as well.

Hopefully we see 3 new players today - Kubicek on D (unless he's injured????), Raska up front and one of Bednar/Parik. This Russian team played a Czech team with about 8 of these players and the rest of the team were actual members of the National Team. The Russian team beat them solid. This time the Czechs won't have a guy like Filip Hronek on the backend. I'd say we are 100-1 chance of winning this but we did beat Russia 4-3 last year.

I'll go Russia 5-2.

It seems like Russia and the Czech Republic play every year and every year it is closer than I expect it to be. I didn't quite catch all of the Czechs game yesterday once Sweden started to run away with it, but I liked their play at the start. I'll go 5-3 Russia here.

I wonder if Askarov is in goal or they rotate
According to Larionov Askarov is getting all but one or even all starts. Guesssing the back to back vs. Austria is where backups have a chance. It is a Larionov thing. I do not necessarily agree.

At the Euro Hockey Tour a month ago. The Czechs released the KHLers before the game though and played with a younger roster too. It was still officially the czech senior NT.

Hmmm. Coaches are never incorrect eh
I don't think by that much. Also Larionov is the new coach. He would be remarkably stupid to shoot himself in the leg and let a good player sit. He needs to prove himself. Also Russia is weak at C.

So there is an injury OR Larionov really isn't high on Abramov and the hype around Abramov by NA posters needs to be re-evaluated.

One of the quirks of the Bragin teams was they often had the tendency to have a few round robin stinkers where they'd either lose or have a tough game against a team they were expected to beat. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues under Larionov.

Could be injury I guess but I think your bias against him needs to be re-evaluated maybe as well as our praise. He’s definitely one of the most skilled and hopefully gets to prove it. Was one of the few good forwards in the ore tourney game. They’ll need all the skill if they want to beat a stacked Canada
