Thought this was a pretty good interview the other day. Think we are all very lucky to have Craig Custance, compared to the other media members covering this team.

-Was also a bit underwhelmed by Detroit's recent draft
-Gives really good insight into the Mrazek/Howard situation
-Talks about Kronwall/Ericsson and the bad contracts
-Talks about what is to come with The Athletic Detroit

His articles have been great. Love the layout, too.

Looks like it's worth the cost, even if it's just Detroit coverage. If they had some Packers stuff in there, it would be an insta-buy. :naughty:

He also said 18 year olds are hard to judge. And RAM is a good NHL skater though not his asset. That's true with most big players.

He was spot on why they protected Howard over Mrazek. He said nobody wanted Mrazek, he has no value around the league. And his work ethics and attitude is the biggest reason why, though this might be a wake up call for him. He said Howard works his tail off, and said what kind of message will they send to the players if bad attitude/poor work ethic players are rewarded over the work horses who put 110% every day. It starts a losing culture.

Re-bad contracts; Kronwall has no gas left in the tank but has heart. Ericsson is still an NHL defenseman, but not worth his contract. He said no AHL defenseman are ready ready to take over minutes.

He think AA would be traded for an equally talented and aged dman, but dman price tags are too high. He won't return a player we need that is worth his value/age.

Based on the articles and the Wings current goalie situation, Holland would be wise to unload Mrazek and find a way to get rid of Howard. We need to get back to the days of spending 5m on two goalies total. Not 10m on two goalies with issues.

Howard is old and can't stay healthy and the organization doesn't believe in Mrazek. Time to move on from both.

Yes he mentioned at the very end about support from social media over the HONESTY he's trying to portray. Being perfectly candid is a winning strategy, deeper insight is what people crave and being an obvious insider gives him the credibility. He has a "young" kind of attitude while maintaining professionalism. Custance is off to a great start in Detroit it shows the dialogue he speaks is wanted.

Only thing I disagree with was naming DDK as the only top 4...um what about Mike Green? Overall his explanations paint a picture of the reality that's not black or white. Like Kronwall is on one leg but the guy has a giant heart and clearly wants to play. What do the Wings do? He has some definite opinions but leaves a lot open by stimulating the discussion.

Are Anser, Helene, and Bill nervous or happy he's in town?

Ansar is alright. Helene is a puppet. George Malik is the biggest homer possible to me. I am loving Craig. An insider for Detroit with an actual opinion.
