Speculation: Current vs potential

I thought it could be interesting to see what kind of potential the Senators have, and where they are at right now. If we use the below ranks, 1-10, ranking them both right now and where we assume they could potentially end up during their peak/prime.

I'm gonna take a stab at some of the players that I am familiar with, feel free to chime in and give your opinions aswell as post your own ranks. Could be an indicator of what to expect from the future, of course it will also depend on free agents and upcoming draft picks.

I think there's not enough distinction between 1st line, Allstar, elite and franchise. What do all these mean?

I would change it to
1st line = average 1st liner
Star = above average 1st liner (combine Elite and All Star)
Franchise = franchise player (meaning you're the #1 player no matter your position)

Make those 4 categories into 3.


Instead of 1 being 4th liner, make it health scratch

I do see your point. Pre injury he would've been a 9, perhaps even more. He hasn't shown enough since coming back from that injury, to warrant him being higher in my eyes. But it's subjective and I respect that you don't agree

We could potentially have good team in 2-4 years, but at the same time; some players might bust at the same time as the older players can regress during this time period.

Still looking pretty good, especially if we can find an owner that is capable of spending the cap (bring in a couple of great free agents).

If everything goes right and everyone reach their maximum potential

Lehner can be elite, imo.

Turris won't be an allstar, he'll be true 1st liner as max.

Mac, Lazar, Chiasson and even Stone will be very good 2nd liners/average first, let alone true first liners. Still remains to be seen but nothing really indicative of it.

Karlsson already is franchise, lol @ anything less. He can be generational.

All this still bodes very well considering we are 30th in payroll. We can add 2 players to elite category through trade/ufa if we play our cards right.

1: Hope you're right

2: Still have high hopes for Turris. He's been pretty bad so far this season, but last season he had stretches where I found him dominant - 2 way.

3: Potential abilities, but I guess your take on it is more realistic. Though they CAN reach that level....I hope

4: Karlsson was franchise before the injury, he has yet to reach anywhere close to that level since.

5: Exactly. Being where we are in the standings despite our financial trouble, is amazing.
