I am just wondering, why there are so many foreign and Russian players currently leaving the KHL. Is there any concrete reason for that?

There is a KHL board for these type of questions, but to answer you directly the KHL decided to end the regular season early due to time constraint and directly move on with the playoffs after the Olympics, starting March 1. As the transfer window is still open/just closed in many European leagues, it left a gap where they could sign KHL players from the teams that did not make the playoffs where either the team wanted to save some money, or the players wanted to prolong their season.
