The problem with Espo is that he doesn't try. And he doesn't like getting hit. He shies from contact. If his team doesn't have the puck, he looks terrible out there. Luckily, he has good linemates.

The people who have followed the '89-born group for a few years can ascertain this fact:
Often prior to big-games or events over the past few years, the Esposito camp continues to create ready-made excuses to explain away failure to impress, by stating a pre-existing illness that has befallen Angelo.

This has occured at a couple of big summer tournaments: the Under 17 Challenge (Espo claimed he had the flu but was observed at the host hotel sitting, laughing, drinking a cappachino as other teams came in & out of the hotel); the Under 18 Team Canada selection camp (claimed he had another ailment and sat out one of the intra-squad games, floated through the others); and during one of the Team Canada World junior team selection camps it was stated to the media that he was suffering the flu again; and recently for the Top Prospects game where it was again stated to the media that he had the flu and could not participate in the skills comp except for the breakaway event where he but on a great show of hot-dogging past the opponents bench after he scored a goal.

To many, this constant excuse-making prior to something big, may mean that there are serious insecurities that necessitate the need to explain the possible lack of dominance by this highly-touted and over-hyped prodigy.
