I have been working on this for a week or so. It’s all the Cup teams from 1994 and on. It shows all the players they got through trades, free agency, and drafted players. Some players I put under developed might have been from trades but if these guys never played in the NHL yet or barely had any experience I still considered them developments by the new teams. This might not be 100% accurate but it’s pretty close to me.
----------------------------------------------------
1994:NY Rangers-Attained through trades/FA-> Messier('92), Graves('92), Larmer(This cup year), Tikkinen('93), Gartner('90), Anderson(This cup year), Noonan(This cup year), Matteau(This cup year), MacTavish(This cup year), Lowe('93), Beukeboom('92), Greg Gilbert(This cup year), Mike Hudson('93), Jay Wells('92), Olczyk('93), Kypreos(This cup year), Kocur('91), Healey('93), Lidtser('93), .

Drafted/Developed-> Zubov, Leetch, Nemchinov, Kovalev, Amonte, Karpotsev, Turcotte, Norstrom, Richter.....

Got a ton of talent through trades and aquisitions. They could afford to take on a lot of players of this calibre..Besides Zubov, Leetch, and Richter, this cup wasn't won with a huge amount of homegrown talent. They still made good trades or signings though.

------------------------------------------------------

1995:NJ Devils-Attained through trades/FA->Richer('92), Broten(This cup year), Stevens('91), Shawn Chambers(This cup year), Holik('92), Carpenter('93), Albelin('89), McKay('91), and Peluso('93)...

Drafted/Developed->Maclean, Guerin, Niedermayer, Chorske, Rolston, Driver, Brylin, Zelepukin, Daneyko, Brodeur, Terreri....

Jersey got a lot of grit through trades but I give them credit they grew a lot of their talent as well.

------------------------------------------------------

1996:Colorado Avalanche-Attaied through trades/FA->Lemieux('95), Young('91), Ozolinsh(This cup year), Keane(This cup year), Wolanin('90), Ricci('92), Troy Murray('95), Hannan('95), Lefebvre('94), Rychel('95), Krupp('94), Roy(This cup year)

Drafted/Developed->Sakic, Forsberg(I'll still put him here), Kamensky, Deadmarsh, Simon, Yelle, Gusarov, Leschyshyn, Foote, Klemm, Corbet, Fiset, Aaron Miller, Thibault....

besides Roy, Lemieux, Ozolinsh, Ricci, and Krupp I think Colorado did an excellent job of drafting(Well the Nordiques..Same Sh** lol)

---------------------------------------------------------------

1997:Detroit RedWings-Attained through trades/FA->Shanahan(This cup year), Larionov('96), Murphy(This cup year), Sandstrom(This cup year), Fetisov('95), Draper('93), Doug Brown('94), Bob Rouse('94), Maltby('96), Stu Grimson('95), Mike Ramsey('95), Mike Vernon('95)...

Drafted/Developed->Yzerman, Federov, Lidstrom, McCarty, Kozlov, Konstantinov, Dandenault, Martin Lapointe, Jamie Pushor, Holmstrom, Tim Taylor, Aaron Ward, Anders Eriksson, Joey Kocur, Chris Osgood, Mike Knuble, Kevin Hodson,....

I'll give Detroit credit. Drafted lots of core players

-------------------------------------------------------------

1998:Detroit RedWings-Attained through trades/FA->Dmitri Mironov(This cup year), Brent Gilchrist(This cup year), Jamie Macoun(This cup year),

Detroit basically just added some grit/character to their team. Pretty much the same as the first cup win.

--------------------------------------------------------------

1999:Dallas Stars-Attained through trades/FA->Brett Hull('98), Joe Nieuwendyk('95), Sergei Zubov('96), Darryl Sydor('96), Pat Verbeek('96), Benoit Hogue('96), Mike Keane('98), Dave Reid('96), Guy Carbonneau('95), Shawn Chambers('97), Craig Ludwig('91), Brian Skrudland('98), Ed Belfour ('97)...

Drafted/Developed->Modano, Jere Lehtinen, Jamie Langenbrunner, Grant Marshall, Derian Hatcher, Richard Matvichuk, Blake Sloan, Roman Turek, ......

Made good drafts in my opinion. They added a ton of experience with the signings/trades.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

2000:NJ Devils-Attained through trades/FA->Jason Arnott('98), Claude Lemieux(This cup year, got back from COL), Alexander Mogilny(This cup year), Lyle Odelein('96), Deron Quint(This cup year), Vladimir Malakhov(This cup year)....

Drafted/Developed->Patrik Elias, Scott Gomez, Petr Sykora, Brian Rafalski, John Madden, Krzysztof Oliwa, Jay Pandolfo, Brad Bombardir, Colin White.....

Got some key players through trades but once again New Jersey drafts and develops players really well.

---------------------------------------------------------------

2001:Colorado Avalanche-Attained through trades/FA->Rob Blake('00), Ray Bourque('00), Steven Reinprecht(This cup year), Shjon Podein('99), Greg De Vries('99), Dave Reid('99), Nolan Pratt('00), Chris Dingman('99),

Drafted/Developed->Milan Hejduk, Alex Tanguay, Chris Drury, Martin Skoula, Ville Nieminen, Dan Hinote, Eric Messier, Scott Parker, David Aebischer,

----------------------------------------------------------------

2002:Detroit RedWings->Attained through trades/FA->Brett Hull('01), Luc Robitaille('01), Chris Chelios('99), Boyd Devereaux('01), Steve Duchesne('00), Fredrik Olausson(This cup year), Jiri Slegr(This cup year), Uwe Krupp('99), Manny Legace('99), Dominik Hasek('01).....

Drafted/Developed->Pavel Datsyuk, Jason Williams(played in AHL mostly this year), Jiri Fischer, Sean Avery....

--------------------------------------------------------------------

2003:NJ Devils-Attained through trades/FA->Jeff Friesen('02), Joe Nieuwendyk('02), Grant Marshall(This cup year), Turner Stevenson('00), Pascal Rheaume(This cup year), Oleg Tverdovsky('02), Richard Smehlik(This cup year), Jim McKenzie('00), Steve Guolla(This cup year), Corey Schwab ('02), developed him then gave him away then got him back)....

Drafted/Developed->Brian Gionta, Christian Berglund, Michael Rupp, Mike Danton....

Some good pickups..

--------------------------------------------------------------------

2004:TampaBay Lightening-Attained through trades/FA->Martin St. Louis('00), Cory Stillman('03), Fredrik Modin('99), Dave Andreychuk('01), Ruslan Fedotenko('02), Dan Boyle('01), Tim Taylor('01), Darryl Sydor(This cup year), Brad Lukowich('02), Cory Sarich('00), Jassen Cullimore('98), Chris Dingman('02), Shane Willis('01), Nolan Pratt('01), Andre Roy('02), Nikolai Khabibulin('99), John Grahame ('02)

Drafted/Developed->Brad Richards, Vincent Lecavalier, Pavel Kubina, Cory Sarich, Dmitry Afanasenkov, Ben Clymer, Martin Cibak, …

I think too many people think Tampa Bay drafted a lot of their current players when they got most of the team through good trades or other means.

Nice job collecting all the data but some of this is way too simplistic. Just because a guy was signed or traded for doesn't mean that it was a team using a ton of cash or taking advantage of a poorer team. No one forced Winnipeg to sell Kris Draper to Detroit for one dollar, for instance.

Your right..I don't mean it in a bad way about the trades and whatever. You can;t just build teams through a draft right. It's a combo of everything..I just wanted to show everyone how all those winning rosters were assembled for curiousity sake.

I'm someone who tends to throw up stuff on the Oilers board that involves a ton of research, so I've got a tremendous amount of respect for the amount of time this sort of thing takes. It's nice to see it all set out like that. I think that the poster above me makes a good point though in relation to how the players coming in trades weren't salary dumps. If it's a "fair" trade, then I don't see any reason to complain. A lot of those guys that were acquired in trade, or through FA, were guys that no one else wanted, or in some cases, guys who came specifically to pursue a Cup. No complaint here about either method of acquiring talent.
