Only two players in NHL history have more top PPG+GPG finishes than Ovechkin.

it's going to be sad when both these guys call it a day. Best 2 player rivalry our generation has seen. These 2 literally saved the NHL especially it being at a all time low after the lock out and so for.

Incredible work. Pretty mind boggling to consider that Ovechkin has had more points than Crosby for 86% of their careers.

Not really that mind-boggling when you consider that Crosby missed a lot of time early on. Significant injuries in 07, 11 and 12. Ovechkin was in beast-mode during that time.

Over the last decade, Crosby has scored 753 points in 626 games (1.20PPG, 98.64 pts/82 games). Ovechkin has scored 706 in 721 games (0.98PPG, 80.29 pts/82 games). That's 47 points more in about 100 games less. 18 points per 82 games.

Crosby had more points: Seven times (never lost to Ovechkin in PPG)
Ovechkin had more points: Twice (both times Crosby beat him in PPG)
Tied: Once (Crosby better PPG)

Ovechkin has had 5 seasons under 1 PPG. Crosby 0.

What it shows is how incredibly dominant Ovechkin was early on. Yes, Crosby missed time, but it does not matter. Took Crosby a LONG time to pass him despite Ovechkin scoring at a much lower pace for a decade.

I didn’t realize Crosby has played basically two less seasons than Ovechkin.

OV has been really durable during his career. Considering what happened during the world juniors I thought that wouldn’t have been the case.
Good for both these guys. Two of the all time greats for sure.

Ovechkin's availability rate is SUPER impressive. It is over 95%. Close to 98% if I remember correctly. Considering his style of play, it is REALLY exceptional.

The stats are moot when it comes to who was the best. I don't even think O.V. feels he was better than Crosby over the duration of his career.

Crosby felt Ovi was the best player in the league in 2010 when he met him in 2010 NHL Awards.

Since October 1st 2005, 5,696 days have passed:
  • Number of days when Ovechkin was in the lead - 4,884
  • Largest lead for Ovechkin - 83 points (667-584 on March 13th and 14th, 2012)
  • Number of days they were tied - 42
  • Number of days when Crosby was in the lead - 770
  • Largest lead for Crosby - 33 points (252-219 on November 17th and 18th, 2007; and on January 12th and 14th, 2008)
Some serious context.

To be fair, Ovechkin probably was the best player on the planet at that point. Three straight Lindsays and 1st, 1st, 2nd in Hart voting.
ya, its fair to say that he was the best player at the time, but my point was that you can't base it off crosby saying it.
