What Melnyk should have done is what most of us have done, tried to pay our debts off as quickly as possible. He should have paid cash for the team & arena when he had the money to do it before Biovale went south, before his divorce & all his other financial troubles. When he first bought the team, he was a billionnaire & bought the team & arena for a pretty cheap price & if he would have bought it outright he would be making money now & not losing money.
But instead he borrowed money to buy the team & then had all his problems & now is crying he is losing money while we see numerous sellouts & lots of merchandise being bought. For some of us it's a head scratcher but IMO it was brought on by him. CTC needs to have a lot more events there too, it sits idle too many days throughout the yr. I guess if he doesn't have any money he isn't going to start doing things to reduce costs if it costs money, like placing solar panels & wind turbines on the roof of the arena to reduce energy costs. Or build a verticle parking lot to accomodate more cars now that they are widening the Queensway & building another ramp to the Queensway from CTC. He could be creative to reduce costs but I'm guessing he will wait until their is another government at Queens Park so he can reapply for a Casino again with the new government.
