Brennan: A quiet week, maybe, but expect lots of noise from the Senators this summer

"The Senators were never able to replace Marc Methot with another capable veteran defenceman, and they haven’t found one to replace Dion Phaneuf, either. With Karlsson on his way out, Anderson must be thinking a 37-year old coming off a bad season has no chance to rebound behind the young and iffy group of blue-liners the Senators will trot out every night.
I get that, but it still shows a lack of character on his part.
Anderson has been referred to as a leader on this team. By coaches, teammates and himself. Well, leaders don’t run away when things get tough, especially from a city that has poured love all over him and his family.
Also, the two-year extension Anderson signed doesn’t even kick in until next season. With a raise. It’s different circumstances, but this feels a little Alexei Yashin-ish and Dany Heatley-ish.
Isn’t it a little irksome to hear of a guy expressing a desire to move after shaking hands on a deal to stay? Wanting to be traded after getting a contract with a no-trade clause?
"

There's bitterness all over his article.
Character assassination from Brennan for no noticeable reason is very much a Doni move. Ugh. Anderson's been all class since getting here and only a complete tool could compare him to Heatley or Yashin while putting the blame on him for wanting out of this tire fire.

That was weak. Brennan pretends to still lives by 'the code', 3 months ago this adult professional writer was writing columns about who he thought was the hottest woman on TV - his maturity level is zero and he is yet to grow into being a responsible and thoughtful sports writer, he writes as if he's just finished a a pornhub marathon and is strung out on oven pizza and is living in his Moms basement.

He does have a point. And Anderson quit on Colorado big time when we got him.

I really don't think he does. Anderson is nearing the end of his career. The defence lost two cornerstones last year in Phaneuf and Methot, and will likely lose a third in Karlsson this summer. None of them have been replaced in any fungible way. The locker room is probably still fractured, too – how could it not be? – and there's no assurance that this team is going to be anything but awful for the foreseeable future. I'm the first to jump on a guy when he's quitting for no reason, but Anderson's earned the benefit of the doubt in my eyes through being a good teammate and a solid player when we needed him to be. If he wants to find greener pastures, not only does he have my understanding, he also has my support. I'd rather see one of my favourite players of the past decade get one last crack at a Cup than watch his career end on a sour note.

This ownership group has no loyalty to anyone, not to EK or Alfie, not to Spezza, Fisher, Kelly, Redden, Vermette - not on single player. Why should Anderson end his career on a team that is throwing its players and fans under the bus.

To be honest, I'm surprised not everyone gets n the team has asked for a trade.

I am not saying Anderson is being unreasonable but if he did ask for trade after we extended him, I don't think it looks great on him.

However why would he care? He's near the end of his career, other people's opinion of him do not, and should not, matter to him.

Winning a cup is what he wants he doesnt want to play on a team were he will get shelled night in night out. Sens need a proper rebuild they never had one before. Like I mean a draft develop 5 year like the jets

It may not look the best but if the rumor that Dorion asked anyone who doesn’t want to be here to let him know is true, I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s just being honest. Things have changed over the course of the year with the team since the extension was signed.

Doesn’t necessarily mean he’s going to be traded either.

More than anything we need players who want to be here.
Its true you need 3 good leaders that belive in the plan the rest will come. Instead of players at the end of thier career who havent done much get younger guys on the cusp who will compete for those spots. Jets started with buff wheeler ladd understood about growing pains kept drafting kept adding never trading away assets jier top 2 lines are made of 4 players they drafted top 4 d has 2 they drafted #1g they drafted. Ott can follow this model too

Andy sure didn't mind signing that contract extension. I get he wants to end his career with a Cup (who doesn't), but maybe he should've thought of that before signing that deal and falling flat on his face last year.

Dorion went out of his way to give Andy a great contract a year early, knowing Andy's up-and-down career here likely would've meant a smaller contract this summer if he had waited.

Can't help but feel angry here...especially since I was one of the few constantly defending him during his down seasons. Seeing this crap too much in Ottawa...guys get their big and/or retirement contracts - Ryan, Pageau, Smith, Anderson - and turn around and go on cruise control once they have their money. It sucks.

We have Karlsson, Stone and Duchene.

As long as all three stay and sign, we are not and should not be rebuilding.

Word is it has to do more with his personal reasons than team reasons. Better, I guess, but what the hell are we going to find in nets now.

Andy to the Isles, but I don’t want Greiss. I’d take a third or the Isles want to give us Brock Nelson, that’s fine too. Maybe the Isles would like Zack Smith? Andy and Smith for Nelson and a third works for me.

Then we find another goalie in free agency or trade.

I don't know if this is a true rumor but someone on a Facebook page called Red Scarf Union (Sens fans in Toronto) that Andy would end his trade request if Karlsson is traded. So something else may be going on in that broken locker room. From what I read the source came from Senschirp.ca comment section.
