I decided long ago on this list not to vote for any goalie. Just on the principle that they are too enigmatic to track for me and I don't feel like I'd be able to say which one will be good or bad. Otherwise, I would have considered one or two of them by this point.

At this point in the list, though, I have to start guessing a lot more than should be counted on haha!

The disembodied voices swayed my opinion, except they kept telling me to pick two goalies, but I refused; they weren't very happy with me...

The list, yeah not great
I disagree with some of the overall order but the only one that really sticks out to me is Hill, I'd have him outside the top 10 not inside.

That list doesn’t make me too sad that there’s changes in the scouting department

When virtually every quality young player is already on the roster though it kinda makes sense the prospect list sucks. A guy like Chychrun who a player drafted in his spot 16th overall as a D, he would normally just barely start getting on the radar to make the roster this season. But because of his unusual NHL readiness he's already here.

Though I was not terribly impressed even at the time a lot of the mid picks in '17. The best one was Entwistle, I'd have had him around 6th/7th I think.

Thanks for the work Sniper.

Feel free to slide Jenik up to 7 when no one is looking. You could fill the 10 spot with Emberson.

But most teams have a guy or two that beats the norm and makes the NHL ahead of expectations. Really this team has a couple of hits in the first round, some decent and possibles also in the first, and not a lot to speak about outside of that. Their drafting after round 1 has been mediocre at best when compared to the majority of teams.

I think you are overrating what the rest of the league is doing the last few years. These drafts have not been as deep as the 14/15 ones.

If you look at the Chychrun draft, only 5 players drafted after him have made an impact. And 6 out of the 15 ahead of him haven't done much either. He's a massive win at 16 overall. Out of the 22 between him and Debrincat only 2 of them have any NHL experience at all. I see getting a 20 minute a night D as such a huge win that it really does wash away a lot of anything going wrong after the 1st.

Merkley has performed at every level and is often considered a top 50 prospect.

They didn't have a 2nd at all in 2016 for example. The Westerlund pick looks kinda poor right now but for the most part the people taken around him aren't all that highly regarded right now either. Those are the only big demerits I see since Chayka has been GM. And with Chayka's draft young philosophy a lot of the players he took this year we're not as on the radar as they might otherwise have been. It could blow up completely too, but in another year if we see progression those kinda meh picks could all the sudden look genius.

Dineen and Capobianco are about as good as you can expect out of third round picks. Both on track, solid prospects for where they were taken. Entwistle, another 3rd was also on pace before being traded. I think those are 3 pretty solid picks in the 3rd, 3 years in a row. And there's no real obvious miss around them.

I don't sweat the 4th+ rounds all that much.

The Athletic just had the Coyotes at 15th in prospect pool quality. Considering the graduations I think that's still pretty okay.
Chayka crushed the '16 draft, did okay in '17, and I'm a little iffy on '18 but I'm not writing it off just yet.

'18 draft was better than '17 draft

'17 PO Joseph (1), Westerlund (2), Entwistle (3), Schnarr (3), Crotty (3), Hoefenmayer (4), Karow (5), Steenbergen (5), Walterholm (7)
'18 Hayton (1), Bahl (2), Jenik (3), Emberson (3), Prosvetov (4), Callahan (5), Busby (5), Tendeck (6), Kirk (7)

We need to start having some 3rd round or later guys begin to contribute and we haven't seen any picks past round 2 make any significant impact since the 2008 draft with Michael Stone or Domingue in 2010 and I'd argue Domingue's contribution. That is some bad drafting, hopefully Dineen & Capobianco will help thwart that trend.

Elite drafting means you get 2 players per draft that play more than 200 games in the show. Poor drafting is 1.

And I'd note that even if we assume Strome busts, the Coyotes will have done 1.6 over 14/15/16.
If Strome doesn't completely bust, it will be 2.
