Why aren't we hearing about many NHL teams getting close to running into financial troubles? Very small gates to zero gates. Players still getting paid (although a considerable amount placed in escrow). Most teams without lucrative local television deals. Shrinking advertising revenues. Shrinking advertising revenues with the broadcasters. Shrinking merchandise sales. Yet nary a whisper. Come to think of it, where are any of the insolvent businesses (other than small businesses)? How is any of this possible?

NHL got a big (billions i believe) line of credit to help league ride out pandemic.

A couple of teams have sued their insurance carriers over pandemic claims.

Even after the virus is gone there is still a ton of lingering effects. If they play a game now, they will get blown out from being no where near the physical performance of themselves prior to the illness.
And the players agreed to this before the season so what's the point here?

Yes, some protocols might be able to be loosened once full vax+2 weeks as per CDC guidelines. But NHL and NHLPA might be slow in making changes

I cannot find the answer but perhaps someone knows what's going on.

With Vancouver's previous COVID-19 outbreak, the North Division schedule is the only division that plays beyond Thursday, May 13. On Friday, the Leafs play the Jets while on Saturday the Canucks play the Oilers. Following that, the Canucks play Calgary 3 times and these two teams are only teams playing the regular season.

Given both Calgary & Vancouver will or have already been eliminated from contention, Edmonton is essentially locked into the #2 spot in the North, would it be possible to:

1) simply scrap those last three or four games by the Canucks and then calculate all teams by point percentage. Edmonton would then have played 1 fewer game, Calgary 3 fewer games and Vancouver 4 fewer games.
2) allow those three games to happen simply from a points standpoint but then allow the qualified North division teams to start their playoffs simultaneously?

I'm aware the other divisions may start their playoffs before the North division is wrapped up, but I don't see why the North division can't start their playoffs soon after.

They need to play the games for tv contracts and sponsors.

PA's governor stated that all restrictions, except for masks, will be lifted at midnight between May 30 and 31, so the Penguins could potentially have 100% capacity if they are playing on or after Memorial Day. (Governor hasn't yet addressed the latest statements by the CDC about masks)

This is not correct. CDC is an advisory only organization. They have no power to actually make 'rules'. They can only recommend.

States and local municipalities still have the right to mandate masks if they wish. And, of course, as you say, private locations can make their own rules as well.

that's the question states are now dealing with, MNN, is the enforcement end....

all states including ours are relaxing restrictions earlier than what MA is, if not by the end of this week
