So Patrick Laine has been off to a rocky start to say the least with a lot of disappointment and only a few bright spots here and there. He had a nice first game and then got injured. After that he got traded and right after that he got benched for some foolish reason. When he returned he got his ass kicked in a fight. Through all this Laine has put up a mediocre 8+5=13 points in 14 games played. But the stats are flawed as he's played 4 games against Nashville which is his cryptonite. Laine has a very hard time scoring or just putting up points in general against Nashville. Laine has only 1 measly assist in 4 games this season against Nashville and Cam Atkinson literally had to break space time in order to get Laine that point:
But March might look a lot brighter for Patrick Laine. 14 games in total and the first 13 of them are against Detroit, Dallas, Carolina and Florida, a group of teams that Laine has played 45 career games against and has put up an impressive 40+23=63 points against in those 45 games. That's a full 82 game pace of 72+42=114 points, which is just about the kind of player most experts projected Laine would be at during his prime.
So an exceptionally hot March might not be out of the question for Laine. The record for the best March ever still belongs to Teemu Selanne with 20+7=27 points in 14 games. That might be a tall order for Laine as he has no support playing in Columbus but a nice goal per game pace during March certainly isn't that far out.
So what do you think? Will Laine heat up and have a hot March and resign, or will he fizzle out and become the next Jeff Carter and be traded at the trade deadline?
