Philly doesnt need either at all IMO

I wish they would figure out their goalie stress once and for all until Hart is ready. I love watching this team play but always wanna bang my head against the wall cause of their constant goalie issues

Philly is going to try to sign Carlson to an offer sheet and when his agent lets them know it's not necessary they're going to pull their offer.

Carlsson? Doubt it. Karlson however, absolutely.

Its simple. MacLellan doesn't negotiate contracts til the season is over as a rule. Just like with Oshie last season. Just like with Trotz now. Basic reporting says Carlson wants to stay and that the Caps want to keep him. The numbers floated are 8x8. I'd be surprised if Carlson moved.

Offer sheeting a UFA is an interesting approach.

Dont mean to sound cocky, but he has been busy winning the cup past couple months. And obviously the final cap number is still out there. Need to know that for sure before committing.

If the cap goes up by the expected 5 its really hard to see Caps not giving him the OEL contract if that is what it takes. They are going to try to twist it as low as possible, but before the FA starts they will just give out and hand it to him. Right now we can just hope they manage to sell some home discount for drunken Johnny though..

And by all the signs, Carlson also looks like he really enjoys DC and the fans and the team, and the obvious recent cup run too. Hard to see him signing elsewhere if the offer isnt reasonably bigger than what the Caps can afford. Id take a wild guess that you need to give him 9 aav, maybe even a drop more, with a lot of years. If you can afford to that you might have a case.

Or on other hand. I have zero actual information so you never know! :)

But OEL didnt take his contract to FA. He avoided risk of getting injured or being suck ([email protected]) by accepting a market priced deal, but he would propably have gotten little more if he waited another year.

That doesn't sound like someone who's going to be staying with their current team, to be honest.

That could be taken a number of ways including how you are taking it. This is home and its all I know says something different. Its my read only but that sounds like its his agents job and he is not getting into it in the media

He's a good player but I don't see this type of move happening just yet. I believe Hextall would much rather give the contracts to home grown talent, which there will be tons of in the coming years. I could see the Flyers making a splash next year or the year after. I do not think this is the year. Gotta see what you have first before you start dipping into FA. I think this all hinges on Carter Hart. When he's ready the team will start wheeling and dealing to make the push to the top.

Carlson is a really laid back dude. Every interview is that way. He’s chill, subdued, and....I’d say almost monotone.

He doesn’t know what the team is going to offer. It’s really up to the Caps, IMO. If they offer 8m/8yrs, he’s staying. If they offer something low because they are moving on, then that’s what happens.

I’d be very surprised if Carlson wasn’t the newest member of the Caps 8yr deal club by late June. Perhaps joined by ........ (wait for it, Pens/Isles fans).....big Willy. I could see both getting long deals. Different $$$, but years and years.

Common, the OP is clearly talking about Karlsson + Carlson = Carlsson. :)

That's literally him playing hardball, he just played 5 years of top pairing hockey for less than 4 million a year so he's got to put it out there that he's expecting to get paid.

They have talked about it earlier in the season and agreed to discuss an extension after the season. Now they are celebrating and soon will get the number of what the cap will be next year, Caps have the cap to give him 8*8 anyway its all about how much else they need to sacrifice.

Flyers are thinking outside the box. And by box, I mean the CBA and all other player-team regulations. And logic.

Not saying someone will offer more but why would he sign it now when he can just wait a few weeks and see if someone will give him a better offer if it's strictly about the money?

They haven't negotiated yet. We don't know if it's strictly about the money. He said he'd like to stay in DC. This seems similar to what Stamkos and Oshie have done recently. Get a deal done at the last minute. Only the Caps can give him the 8th year.

Hextall just said that they’re not going to offer a 7 year deal for a good player in FA. Not Tavares or Carlson
