Yeah, things can change, but I wouldn't be too optimistic.

According to Swiss television (From sources inside the organisation) there are 3 possibilities.

1) It can be played
2) It is cancelled
3) It gets rescheduled in 2021 (which would need an IIHF-congress decision).

So playing in August is no possibility I guess.

Yeah, I am optimistic but also realistic at the same time. Most likely it won't be played, but I hope the situation gets better so there is even a small possibility.

"The overall situation in the world does not pass by sports", DEB President Reindl hints at World Cup cancellation

A decision has not yet been reached, but anyone listening to Franz Reindl between the lines must assume that the 2020 Ice Hockey World Championships, which are supposed to take place in Switzerland in May, will be cancelled. "As for the World Championships in Switzerland, I don't expect a long discussion. The overall situation in the world does not pass by sports. And it is better to take decisions sooner rather than later", the DEB President said on Thursday afternoon during a press conference in Munich, at which Reindl and DEB Sports Director Stefan Schaidnagel spoke about the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic for the sport of ice hockey. As Reindl reported, the Council of the IIHF World Ice Hockey Federation will meet next week on Tuesday to agree on the further course of action in the global context.

As long as the World Championships have not yet been cancelled definitely, however, "we need to assume that we will proceed with the preparations", Schaidnagel also emphasised. "We have scheduled our preparations to commence on the 3rd of April and have instructed the players to keep in shape and stay healthy at their locations." As a result, the five home games of the German national team in preparation for the World Championships have not yet been cancelled at this stage. "Our domestic international matches will take place in three federal states, and no spectators are allowed in any of them anymore," Reindl said, however, giving cause for concern.

Meanwhile, both Reindl and Sports Director Schaidnagel explained once again the decision announced on Wednesday to discontinue DEB's game operations with immediate effect. "In my opinion, ice hockey has fulfilled its social duty. The sport cannot hide and pretend that this is passing us by. The damage is immense, the decision will hit us hard on all levels in terms of budget, but we still believe that it was the right decision", said Reindl, while Schaidnagel added, "We have to put the sport on the back burner at the moment as we have a social duty to contribute to the common welfare".

That ban ends 30 days of tomorrow ( 13th March) so it's over in April 13th or April 14th.
And U18 WJC's starts 16th April that means there's still 2 days left before the tournament starts.

And if teams can't get ready in days 2 then something is terribly wrong.
Travelling from Finland to USA won't take 2 days so don't panic yet.

So, I was correct.

I'm giving it 90/10 that this post will age poorly...

Who knows better ?
Is it some random The Hockey News reporter
or Kalervo Kummola who's been IIHF vice president last 20-25 yrs.
I don't give a f*** on that what some reporter tweets but i trust that what Kummola says.

Kummola is inside circle of international hockey
so he knows damn well what is going on international hockey.
And yes he's more trustful than some random reporter.

Even Kummola admits that it doesn't look good at the moment.

No you're not correct.
That tweet doesn't prove nothing.

There's no official IIHF's announcement of cancelling 2020 U18 WJC's.
Also i don't give a f*** on that what some random TSN or The Hockey News reporter tweets.

Who do you think knowing better what's going on into international hockey.
Is it some random TSN or The Hockey News reporter or Kalervo Kummola ?

Kummola has been IIHF vice president last 20-25 yrs.
And if / when Kummola says there's no any cancel decisions made
then there's no any cancel decisions made.

Sorry but i trust more on Kummola than some random reporters.
Have a nice day and stop wasting my time anymore.

So what ?
But that doesn't mean that cancel decisions are already made.
Kummola has said many times IIHF will do decisions when time is right and they have next meeting.

So can we stop this mass hysteria and wait what's going to happen in near future.
This situation is now this and 30 days later it can be totally different.
A lot will change in 30 days so lets wait and see.

Kemp osmnáctky se ruší, verdikt ohledně MS vydá IIHF | Hokej.cz - web českého hokeje

The google translate on this is pretty accurate (not always the case):

The final U16 and U17 tourneys were cancelled (they were supposed to be in Finland)
The U18 prep camp has been cancelled as well because all sports facilities are shut down in the Czech Republic
There is supposed to be a U18 tournament in Czech soon... that'll probably be turfed

A lot of Euro's have had a very early end to their season.

Curious when the CHL suspends all their Ontario, Quebec and West games?

I am not optimistic at all. While I'm hoping otherwise, it would not surprise me in the least if the tournament were cancelled. That said, it was quite irresponsible for THN to tweet that out before a decision has been made. It may well be true, but as of right now, it is not.

Rumors say that they'll reduce that to 300 people and that all schools will be closed from Monday on. And that would probably seal it, indeed.
