Little surprised this thread doesn't already exist. I know this isn't the sexiest of tournaments, but still a yearly tradition, and the winner does get to play in the Champions Hockey League, so there is something on the line. I may be the only person that posts in here, but what the hay.

So second round begins today. Vikingar from Iceland survived the first round and move on to round 2. Donbass is currently playing and beating a very, very, very swarthy Spanish team, 5-2 in the second period. They are not as swarthy as the Turkish and Bulgarian teams in the first round, but still very, very swarthy.

The aforementioned Vikingar take on Kurbads from Latvia in the later game.

They are already fast tracked to round 3 I believe.

Hard to see Kurbads not progressing. Not sure whether Donbass has improved their roster from last year one bit.

Well Donbass have been very shaky in the early going on the Ukrainian League, sitting in 3rd place, already with four losses this year. However they won their first two games of this round of the CC, beating Urdin yesterday fairly handily 6-2 and over Vikingur 6-3 today. However, the obvious test will be against Kurbads tomorrow.

It ended as it was supposed to end, but seeing the quality of the play, Kurbads will have a real hard time in next round if they don't pick up their game.

Kurbads have a pretty interesting roster of Dinamo's had-beens and never-beens, they can still do reasonably well in the next round. Also coincidentally they are meeting Lyon in the next round which is basically Latvia's representative team in France with Lavrovs, Podzins and Mickevics on the roster. Also this is way easier group than the other one.
