I like that they're addressing the shortage of D. Makes trading Duchene easier.

Last time Avs selected two defenders with their first two picks were in 2007 (Shattenkirk and Cohen).

We are so stacked with RHD now and what great position to be in. So happy with this draft. :handclap:

Great pickup. I had this kid as a top15 pick, and ahead of Makar. I'm honestly shocked he (and Hague) fell to the 2nd.

Our right side D is looking very promising now.

If that's why they picked him then Makar never should have been picked at #4. You shouldn't need to mitigate the risk of a #4.

They used their best 2 picks to draft the best defensemen on their list, which should be their motto for the next 2 drafts.

Excited about this pick. Also really nice to see them go into the draft and nab two D like this - it's been needed for a while.

Something tells me the inability to trade Duchene for a top 4 D has forced a change in Sakic's thought process.

If that is in fact true, it may turn to be blessing. Strangely enough, it may have also worked out to the Avs long term advantage to lose the lottery. Obviously that remains to be seen.
