It's no surprise that we rely heavily on these 3 to provide offense for our team. Here's where the trio currently ranks vs. the highest scoring trio's in the league:

Colorado: Rantanen, MacKinnon, Landeskog 55 points (12 games)
Toronto: Matthews, Marner, Tavares 45 points (11 games)
Pittsburgh: Malkin, Kessel, Crosby 44 points (9 games)
Boston: Bergeron, Pastrnak, Marchand 44 points (11 games)
Washington: Kuznetsov, Ovechkin, Carlson 43 points (10 games)
Chicago: Kane, Debrincat, Toews 43 points (12 games)
Edmonton: McDavid, RNH, Draisaitl 4o points (10 games)

They are probably the highest paid trio in the league so we should expect them to be near the top.

I think they will be at season's end.

What's scary is the caps are doing that with a defenseman

Feel like Carlson cashes in 2 pp points a game. That PP is automatic right now. Except against the Oilers. Lol.

Well it could be argued that Connor and Leon aren't even in their primes right now and that Nuge is starting to hit his.

We need to get that 4th forward that really unlocks the full potential of our group, our 3 are very good, but if you could add another reliable offensive forward in that top six rotation, we could really crush a lot of teams.

Agreed, that player SHOULD be Puljujarvi but that is TBD. I don't really seeing anyone else in the system that can be that player with the possible exception of Yamamoto, maybe.

It was telling in the post-game when they were interviewing Connor about 3-on-3 he went something like "Well we have talent. Even when it's not me or Leon, we have Nuge ..." and then he kinda half-paused because he couldn't think of a 4th forward, "and uh, D that can jump in".

We need that 4th guy, right now we're tracking towards about 238 goals ... which is just ... OK to kinda poor actually. Only one team made the playoffs last with that low of a goal total and it was Anaheim. With a player of McDavid's caliber, we should really be 250 goals easy and more ideally the top end teams like Pittsburgh are 260+ as the NHL has kinda opened up a bit the last few years.

I'm a bit surprised putting all three of them on the same line hasn't been more dominant. Just based on the odd 5 on 5 time they get.

The lack of offense from the D and that 4th guy to put up points up front are the two things keeping us from being an exceptional team.

I am super high on Tyler Benson, I think he can fit in anywhere. Im afraid it will be a couple of years before he is contributing in a meaningful way, possibly next.

Man the Nuge’s confidence with the puck seems sky high. He’s been elusive out there deking players and making plays. He’s looking like he did in his rookie year.

    Really nice to see.

I always thought we wouldn’t see the real Nuge until he was around 25 as he needed time to physically mature. But yes we need this trio to win and they’ve been good

Agreed... the guy still can't even shave. If I'm the Oilers, I'm playing the long game with this kid (yes, still). He's going to be that C that garners a tonne of respect in years 27 to 32 simply because he's rounded out his game, his experience, and he did it from a very high basis of talent. With the benefit of hindsight, we'll all be praising the fact that he spent a few years sacrificing offense to become a more effective two-way player.

Nice to see him building his offense back into his game with no consequence to his defensive play. I always felt Nuge turned himself into a mistake free player by becoming too low-risk... and that he needed to be willing to make mistakes in the right situation (like after gaining the zone... driving the play). He's doing that now.

Duchene/Stone would be great options to be the 4th guy and Drai's winger. Both should be traded this year too. :naughty:

Those 3 are doing well offensively, but I agree... for the team to take the "next step"... the team needs either a dman to step up offensively or another forward to come out of the woodwork as an offensive force as well.

Nurse/Klefbom or Bouchard(probably not this season though)... need to step up and become that 50 pt dman that helps push the play not only on the PP but at evens.

Someone from the group of Rattie/Yamamoto/Puljujarvi or much longer shots like Marody/Benson/Chiasson need to step up and become that top 6 winger that gives the forwards some better depth and takes the pressure off the "big 3" who are all essentially centres... and yes I know RNH is a winger now.. but only because the team doesn't really have any other good winger options has he been forced there.

Puljujarvi needs to channel his inner Rantanen.

Scary to think that Colorado could possibly be adding a top 5 player in this year's draft and signing Duchene this summer

The difference kinda becomes apparent here though

    Colorado: 280 goals (on pace)
    Toronto: 306 goals (on pace)
    Pittsburgh: 364 goals (on pace)
    Boston: 253 goals (on pace)
    Washington: 320 goals (pace)
    Chicago: 280 goals (pace)

    Edmonton: 238 goals (pace)

It's honestly amazing what McDavid can produce on a team that is far lower scoring than what all these other guys get. We need to get into that 250 range at least to really hang with the big boys.

Why would Duchene go back and why would they want him back?
