I think so too. Looks like Chara is going to resign and I think they want to see what one of the prospects can do. If none of them are ready they still have Chara, Grizz and Moore. It’s a chance to get an impact player for the top 6 like the Wideman for Horton trade.

I think both Vaaka and Clifton will be with the team next season

Grz McAvoy
Vaaka Carlo
Chara Clifton
Moore

Sounds like Zboril has taken some steps forward in development lately too, better decision making and great on the rush, the points are starting to follow. It'll be interesting to see who looks best in camp next year. With Zboril's skating, I could see him surprising people.

With only about 18 million in cap space this offseason to resign: Chara, Carlo, McAvoy, Heinen...plus roster filler and possibly MoJo

They will likely need to move some guys out and replace them with entry level deal guys...Id guess 1 of Moore, Miller, Krug will be moved with Clifton, Lauzon, and Vaak going to battle in camp to win the job

If they don’t re-sign Chara that’s five mil added to what they need to re-up Charlie Mc, Carlo, Majo and go after a FÃ or trade.

With Vaakanainen knocking at the door and Lauzon, Clifton and little Z standing on the top step, Sweeney & Co. would be foolish to extend Chara the same terms.

What about Chara at 3-4M? I wouldn't consider Clifton in with that group. He is a RHD and doesn't strike me as a guy with Top 4 potential.

I consider him a candidate to make the club next year along with Vaakanainen and Lauzon, with Zboril in the mix too.
With Chara,s contract expiring and one or both of Miller and Grzelcyk possibly trade material, there could be the next wave of D men making its way to Boston.

With this list, are you giving any thought or consideration to the expansion draft coming up in 2 years?

Interesting point. I think someone like Clifton, if he continues to progress, would be very interesting to an expansion team. If he improves, what would you give Seattle to take John Moore :)

Expansion aside, I could see the B's right D corp of McAvoy, Carlo, and Clifton once Miller's contract expires after next year. Miller is a warrior but the league is definitely geared towards speed. Probably can't keep two stay at home defenders in Carlo and Miller anyways.

Defensive transformation next year...

Chara and Miller out
Krug dealt for a bigger less defensively challenged top 4 lefty.

new guy-McAvoy
Gryz-Carlo
Vaak-Clifton
Moore
Hope Krug is not dealt as we need his playmaking and PP experience on the team.

You’re right that Mc needs to be given the option of gambling in the offensive end. I’d put Vaakanainen on his port side; bigger and more defensively responsible.
Vaakanainen-McAvoy
Krug-Carlo
Moore-Clifton
Lauzon/Zboril

I hope Bruins win the Cup so Chara can retire, Miller I say must be traded. He is too often injured. CBJ took back MacQuaid so maybe some team will want a Kevan Miller before he gets injured again. That opens up 2 spots on defense, don't see Krug being traded with that happening. Of coarse if the Bruins are getting a Drew Doughty back who cares.

He is making a big impression tonight. All over the ice. Bruce is playing him in different situations. Really like this kid.
