Wow, I'm amazed Tucker has more than Gilmour for us. I know Tucker spent more time with us, but still.

If he pots 30 this year and averages 30 for the following eight years, it will put him at 382.* Sundin is at 420. I went with a low estimate, but he could easily hold the record at the end of his career.

*At the age of ~35.

Sundin has 420, so if Phil has 126 that would mean he'd have to average ~38 goals a year over the next 8 seasons to get there in the same amount of years as Mats.

This is a lot of time we're talking about here. Either way though Sundin was a player that would carry a team on his back, was incredibly strong on the puck, would score huge overtime goals and play a really solid 2-way game, all while wearing the C. Kessel might just edge him in goals. I think Kessel's playmaking ability could help him put up some higher point totals over the course of his career, but Sundin's intangibles make it so Phil would basically have to be a perennial 40 goal, 90 point gut to truly surpass him as the greatest Leaf forward.

Kessel started this year with 119 goals as a Leaf. He has this year plus 8 more years on his extension. Sundin has 420 goals.

That leaves Kessel 9 years to score 301 goals. Or 33.4 goals/season. As long as there are no injuries or lockouts I say Kessel passes Sundin before his contract is over.

If Kessel can average 35 goals a season he passes Sundin before the contract is over which is the exact same duration that Sundin spent as a Leaf. However assists and points probably wont be close.

All 3 categories are possible.

Kessel started the season needing 301G 426A 720P to catch Sundin. Averaging this over 9 seasons gives you 33.4 GPS 47.3 APS 80 PPS. Kessel is getting better right now, he's also had more assists than goal the last two season (an equal in both the season before that). If he hasn't passed Sundin by the end of his current contract he'll be very very close.
