Now to see who both of them end up playing with... the suspense is killing me.

I guess they'll give Valimaki a 9-game audition and see how he does. Dube's earned it though

I don't think the 9 game limit applies in this case? I may be wrong though. Seems to me I heard some kind of loop hole being discussed on fan960 about this pertaining to Valimaki.

I had it a bit wrong. The Flames can send Valimaki down to the AHL before his 10th NHL game and end up getting him for 4 years on his ELC as opposed to the normal 3 years. It has something to do with his date of birth and the year he was drafted... some loop hole.

So when's the last time someone drafted later than the first round made the team's opening day roster right out of Jr hockey?

Edit: Not counting any games the player may have played at the end of the season because their Jr club's season had ended.

f***. That's a tough question.

With some research. For the Flames:

Brian Glynn, NHL draft 1986.

Really, really happy Dube has made the team. I had really hoped Andersson would too. But no denying Valimaki has looked a little better every time I saw him.

Wasn’t it Alex Formenton? The guy the Sens drafted with the 2nd we traded for Lazar.

Technically Formenton played 2 games in the AHL after his junior season ended.

Ah, I think I misunderstood the question based on how it was originally posed.

This is assuming Valimaki sticks with the team and isn't sent down after 9 games (to slide ELC) and allow Andersson on the roster?

Ryan O'Reilly I think was drafted in the 2nd round from Erie, and played for Colorado the following year

Awesome to see some youth in the organization get a shot. Little surprised with the Valimaki inclusion, thought he could use a bit more polish, but he's been very good when not relied on for top pairing minutes the last several games. Still want to see more of Andersson.

You are correct, so I think Dube isn’t going from Jr to NHL like Rubi has suggested, unless I’m missing the question as well... :help:
I'm not really counting those 6 games he played at the end of the season. Lots of players get that opportunity. Their Jr club finishes the season and the Flames invite them on to the Flames roster... kind of like a get aquainted opportunity.
