Any chance Dubas has the wherewithal to pull a late-season coaching change?

If anyone can coach a team with this much skill, and that's the only reason the Leafs have been a top 5 team all year according to the haters. What will a coaching change do?

The beloved Mirtle on TSN this morning said you can "justify a lot of what Babcock has done with his lines this year". Asked about Nylander "what I've seen with him playing with Kadri, the chemistry has been growing...opens opportunities for Nylander playing on the third line".

"He's given them three really good lines by spreading it out"

Only caveat was Marleau, and nobody disputes he's a boat anchor.

Mirtle was very supportive of the coach, and we know he's an oracle around here so....

Cero confidence.
Babcock is not the right coach for this team.
Its obvious that Dubas wants a skilled young team but Babcock wants a heavy team. The young core (Matthews, Nylander, Marner and Rielly) is nothing like Babcocks dream of a team with bunch of gud pros.

Hopefully the whole Hainsey thing TOI, PM on the first line, and other things get rectified before the playoffs

Only Maple Leafs want to fire the coach of a top 5-7 team. Bonkerville

I exist in the middle ground between wanting him fired and thinking he's doing a good job.

We just had a game that went to OT, with the Leafs trailing by multiple goals for the majority of the contest and losing their 3rd line centre for the night early on. Matthews played under 17 minutes.

or winning the Cup is really hard thing to do or winning anything of consequence is a really hard thing to do. Saying the game has passed him by is ignoring every possible logical scenario and going for the laziest opinion possible. If winning championships were easy, the same team would do it every year.

If we follow your logic, you are saying that the only reason why we have not won the cup in the last 3 years is because of Babcock. So if Babcock is fired you are clearly guaranteeing that we will win the cup?

Tied for 5th OA in the standings, 2nd most ROW, 5th in GF, 7th in GA, 2nd best GF/GA differential, 19-8-3 AWAY (2nd best in the league), 17-11-1 @ HOME - if this is what a team looks like when it is coached by a guy who has seen the game passed him by, pretty sure more GM's will be looking for coaches who have had the game pass them by.

So we have the above stats that clearly don't support your opinion, what you got? N_th_ng is what you have ... wanna buy a vowel?

LOL. The talent on the team is carrying him. He is holding them back. If Regular Season Participation Trophies are your thing keep Babcock. If you wanna win in the playoffs we need modern thinking.

And if we had 2 PPs he would have been closer to 20. Tavares was around 18 ish minutes as well. I also find it funny that Babcock gets all the blame when we lose, but gets no of the credit when we win.

lIn your mind modern thinking is playing 2 lines and 4 dmen, right and that should win a cup?

He's a good coach and he's not going anywhere. There is zero chance Dubas will fire him, assuming he would even be allowed to fire him which I don't think he is.

This is such a lazy response. You can say this about quite a few other teams in this league..How about the Ducks team he coached? Oh, very talented team too right? Well you know where this is going..Wings were very talented too...Funny part about some of you guys is that i've been watching this forum for many many years and not many have changed at all(how is it possible to have the same mindset as a teenager and early 20's and then same in your late 20's, 30's and some probably even in 40's..Every coach that comes in...'Coach is the problem, get rid of him'. Next coach that comes in..same response. Yikes! Usually as people get older they gain a different perspective as they learn new things. Oh well..

Oh come on, thats not true at all.

People loved Babcock in his first two years here. When we had teams full of grinders he always got the most out of the roster.

But now he is simply lost with a roster full of skill players. He may still be a good coach for a team full of grinders who can play dump and chase but he has no clue how to run a skilled team. Most nights they win despite coaching not because of it IMO.
